SEO Mad Scientist 🧪🥼🔬

Welcome back to another update of the SEO mad scientist.

We have a quick update today with some insight into what we’ve been testing and what we’re observing.

Last week we mentioned an outbound link test where we had listed relevant pages that were ranking in Google for lolong-tail terms of our Target page keyword.

We added the seven or eight outbound links to the bottom of the page and tracked the results.

The idea was to get a better understanding of what impact Lincoln has in regards to how a web page references other content on the internet.

Simply adding these relevant outbound URL links and reindexing the page we don’t see any major movement…

unnamed (11)

However we are seeing other keywords in the same location start to show up for pages that previously weren’t ranking.

unnamed (12)

When we recreated this test but instead of just listing the outbound Links at the bottom of the content, we place the links contextually by linking actual terms, we have seen just about the same amount of movement.

So to test the impact of having this relevant content internally versus being referenced externally, we recreated the test on another local page but created internal content that was referenced as opposed to outbound links.

We did this by compiling some duplicate content from top ranking sites, using some unicode, and AI generated summarization, to create the relevant internal pages.

Next week will be back with an update on our internal linking test as well as a final linking test variation as it pertains to “link placement” on the page.

Join us then as we try to answer some of the biggest inbound and outbound linking questions in the SEO industry. Until then, Happy Testing!

SEO Mad Scientist 🧪🥼🔬

Welcome back to another exciting week of the SEO mad scientist. In the next two weeks we’re going to be looking at some outbound link tests. The question we’re looking to answer is how beneficial are outbound links? And more importantly what type of outbound links are beneficial?

We have a series of pages with different outbound link variations to test how the different outgoing strategies affect organic ranking.

We’re also going to play with the number of links, relevance, placements, and many other factors to see what is the most effective.

In our first test, we are going to test a small number of outbound links in a list format, and reference the top-ranking page in Google for each long-tail keyword we can find for our primary term.

This is often a strategy used for internal linking in siloing for on-site content but because we do not have this content on our site, we are going to test the effectiveness of linking externally to it. The theory is that if the relevance of this inner linking content is where its value comes from, we may be able to simulate the same linking relevance with outbound links.

If our Target term is “dental implants Miami”, we will search terms like “dental implants Miami jobs”, “dental implants Miami cost”, and “dental implants Miami marketing”. The top-ranking page for each term was put in a list at the bottom of the page with a do-follow outbound link.

Our Term is “patent lawyer san jose” so we took the top ranking site for:

  • “patent lawyer san jose diretory”
  • “patent lawyer san jose reviews”
  • “patent lawyer san jose cost”
  • “patent lawyer san jose jobs”
  • “patent lawyer san jose sallary”
  • “patent lawyer san jose degree required”

unnamed (44)

We then submitted the page to Search Console to be reindexed.

unnamed (45)

As of today, the page has been recalled in the past 24 hours so we are yet to know if we are seeing any immediate effects.

Next week we explore a similar test with contextual upon links as opposed to list form.

Join us next week for another update and are outbound link list test, and a look at new tests to come. See you next week!

Happy testing 🙂

The Most In-Demand Web 3.0 Skills

The Most In-Demand Web 3.0 Skills
Research

The internet is now a key component in modern-day life and that has been equally translated throughout the workplace. Web 3.0, sometimes referred to as the Decentralised Web, is the latest generation of the internet and technology. Applications and services powered by distributed ledger technology, the most familiar being blockchain, has evolved the world wide web. Web 3.0 is the future of the internet and is constantly evolving to allow computers to be able to read and decipher information as well as humans, which means AI (artificial intelligence) is going to be a key component for the future of the online world.

The development of Web 3.0 and its crucial role has meant that job requirements have also shifted and key skills such as coding and development are now vital for a future career in this sector.

Higher Visibility has analyzed the different companies recruiting for Web 3.0 jobs, the roles they are wanting to fill, and most importantly, what skills they are looking for to fill these positions.

TOP JOB ROLES IN WEB 3.0

Through an analysis of job roles within the Web 3.0 category, we found software engineers and developers were the roles that had the most vacancies. In the top spot is Senior Software Engineer, a role designed to direct software development projects, produce code and lead other engineers and developers. This lucrative career could bring you an annual salary of $131,206 based on the national average. It may be no surprise that in the second spot we find Software Engineer. This role is similar to the role in position one, and the main responsibilities are lifecycle software development, programming efficient code, and producing specifications and operational feasibility. This role has an average of $108,249 a year salary.

In the third spot sits Adobe Programmer, this more specific role requires skills in delivering website optimization and customized experience strategies. The level of experience for this role can determine your annual salary ranging from $52,500 to $137,000.

Other job roles featured in our top 10 list include Backend Software Engineer, Community Manager, Developer, Front End Developer, Lead AWS Cloud Developer, Product Marketing Manager, and Programmer Analyst.

TOP COMPANIES RECRUITING FOR WEB 3.0 JOB ROLES

While Web 3.0 jobs sit within all companies worldwide due to their internal requirements for developing their websites to maintain the growth of the internet, there are also specific companies recruiting within blockchain, etc. The top 2 companies that are actively recruiting for Web 3.0 jobs are in fact related to blockchain. Coinbase is an online platform for buying, selling, transferring, and storing cryptocurrency and Consensys is a blockchain technology solution. Interestingly, Garmin appears in our top 3 recruiting for over 10 Web 3.0 roles followed by Chainlink Labs, a provider of open-source oracle solutions.

Seagull Scientific appears in the 4th spot, followed by GDA Fund, a crypto research firm. Other companies in our top 10 are Protocol Labs, Rarible, Accenture, and Eastern Research Group.

MOST IN-DEMAND HARD SKILLS FOR WEB 3.0 JOB ROLES

Our research has shown that there are a wide variety of roles and companies recruiting for Web 3.0 but it is important to ask, what skills are these employers looking for? Looking at hard skills, the top spot is unsurprisingly Developer skills. As a large majority of the open roles were based around development it is clear that these skills are crucial for a role in this new world of technology. 2nd spot is Javascript, these include functional programming, writing code, and memory management. Marketing falls into the 3rd spot which is a key skill to help these companies grow and be successful in the competitive market. Blockchain and Finance are next in our top 10 which are imperative for starting a career in this sector.

Other key skills that are beneficial for a career in Web 3.0 include Analyst, Front End Developer skills, Full Stack, Data Science, and Web3Js

MOST IN-DEMAND SOFT SKILLS FOR WEB 3.0 JOB ROLES

The skills listed above are the hard skills that can help be successful in a Web 3.0 role, but there are also lots of soft skills that can be favorable to ensure you are the right person suited to the role, especially advantageous if you are looking at an entry-level position. Communication skills take the top spot with 24% of job adverts requiring this skill, arguably helpful for every job role available. Working with teams follows in the second position, which is crucial when development teams are required to work closely together to hit deadlines and complete the work needed, 24% of job adverts also require this skill. Being Fast-Paced and Dynamic is required for 22% of adverts analyzed, the key to keeping up with the evolving trends of technology happening daily. 1 in 5 of the adverts we reviewed also wanted Leadership as a key skill, a great skill to have that goes hand in hand with working with teams and communication skills.

Self-motivated, Logical Thinking, Intellectual Curiosity, and Agile Working Methods are also key skills listed in the top 20 of the adverts we analyzed. In the final spot is Passion for Crypto/Blockchain, an obvious skill when developing a career in this sphere.

Which of these desired skills do you require to help you gain a career in Web 3.0, the future of the internet? If Web 3.0 isn’t for you, you can also find the top skills every SEO export should have in 2022 here.

GBP Team Lead – Lasha Hetiia

Meet Our GBP Team Lead: Lasha Hetiia

I found W2R in a google search, I did some research on the website, I liked the services you were offering, and I decided to ask you if you need me, the guy with SEO experience. After that you interviewed me, we talked for 15-20 minutes and in a few days I received an offer from you
I was very pleased with this offer and was looking forward to starting my work in the W2R

Position/Role at Web 20

GBP team lead

Professional Bio

I started learning SEO and PPC in 2015 or 2016, I worked as a freelancer for some time. Later I joined a company in my city, where I was an SEO and PPC specialist, I managed hundreds of PPC campaigns and did a Local SEO for US-based companies.

After a year and 7 months I left them, I needed something new, I needed new goals. And I became a freelancer again. I was freelancing for more than a year, I got much more experience, but it was not enough for me, I wanted to try to work in a team and later I decided to join W2R.

How long have you worked with Web 20?

Almost 2 years.

What does your job entail?
As a team lead, I’m trying to keep an eye on my team. They will always get help from me if its needed, and they always help me if I need it. Also, I’m doing campaign setups and a lot of different team stuff, like campaign QC, ordering tasks, and so on…

What do you like most about your job?
We always have a fresh approach to work. If something has changed in Google, most often we already know about it and we can use it in our work. Every day I learn something new, we have a wonderful team. I am very pleased to work with them, and I can count on each of them.

What motivates you to wake up and go to work?
Life:) I mean, I like what I do, I like my job, I like the industry in which I work. I don’t need to be forced to work, I like it what I am doing anyway.

How has Web 20 helped you in your career development?
I have a lot more knowledge and experience compared to what I had before I joined W2R. If you want to become the best – this company has everything for it.

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Web 20, whose job would you want?
I don’t want to switch with anyone, I feel maximum comfortable with my position and on my way.

What advice do you have for prospective Web 20 candidates?
If you are ready to spend your time, work hard, and become the best – welcome!

What drew you to Web 20 originally? And how has Web 20 changed since?
I really wanted to work in a big team that provides a lot of SEO services. During the time that I have been in the company, it has become even bigger, a lot of people who came here as juniors become seniors. As professionals, we grow here every day.

What have you gained from working at Web 20?
A lot of experience, knowledge, friends, and money:)

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?
I spend all my free time with my family.

One quote you live by
I have to win, otherwise, what will my life be like?

How do you define success?
If I understand and know my goals, and I know how to achieve them, this is success.

What has been your favorite project at Web 20?
My favorite project is yet to come.

What is your greatest fear?
I’m afraid to cause the end of mankind 🙂

Where is your favorite place to be?
This place can be anywhere, the main thing is that my family is next to me.

What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?
When I was 16, I worked as an animator in a retirement home for a couple of weeks.

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
I would become a psy trance DJ:)

If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?
Napoleon Bonaparte, Carl von Clausewitz, Alexander the Great, General Patton. All of them were military leaders and strategists. At work, everything needs a strategy, I would love to learn from them.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I would love to study History, Philosophy, and Psychology – all these help to understand the person and society, this is necessary for my industry.

What are 3 words you’d use to describe Web 20?
Professionalism, strong team, and self-improvement.

What is something you learned in the last week?
I learned a lot about time management.

SEO Mad Scientist 🧪🥼🔬

Welcome back to the SEO mad scientist, and this week we’re going to jump right into it with a quick and final update on our image test and more domain extension SEO results.

Our image tests unfortunately did not seem to show any conclusive results for organic or local. We are adding some other variations to this test and we’ll be back around to conduct some more experiments in the upcoming weeks.

But let’s jump over to our domain extension test where we’ve seen some strong correlated movement between the type of domain extension we’re using and our Target keywords.

For this test we had registered a DOT shop domain and switched it out as primary website and the URL on the GBP.

When looking at the keyword printing shop we see a strong correlation between the domain being added and the rankings…

unnamed

The primary category on the listing is print shop so we’ve been tracking this keyword for a while now and here are what those results look like as well with the domain change update.

unnamed (40)

unnamed (41)

We’ve been tracking some “store” keywords for this listing as well to see if those should any movement along with the “shop” keywords. You can see very little movement for the corresponding “store” keywords, reinforcing our belief that the URL may have something to do with this movement.

unnamed (1)

If our theory is correct and we were to go and register a DOT store domain and perform the same swap as we did previously, we would expect to see our store keywords go up in ranking and possibly the shop keywords to drop.

We now have registered the DOT store domain, move the website and changed the GBP URL. We did not 301 the .shop to the .store. Let’s watch and see what happens.

So far these results have given us enough reason to move forward with some real-world testing on some clients that have agreed to move some of their sites and some of their more stagnant listings.

This concept of domain extensions playing a part and keyword rankings is completely new to the SEO industry and if this is the case can be extremely powerful with niche markets.

Be sure to join us next week as we take more into our SEO tests and uncover what makes the current algorithm tick.

Until then, as always…

Happy Testing!

SEO Mad Scientist 🧪🥼🔬

Welcome back to another week of test updates.

We have still yet to see any results from last week’s image test so we will be reporting a final conclusion next week. However, our TLD GBP tests did seem to show some interesting results…

A previous test a while back we had noticed that when changing the GBP to a .online, our local map rankings seemed to increase for terms containing the work “online”.

This seemed odd because Google has never seen to really favor a domain extension for ranking purposes. In the case of local rankings however it appeared to have an impact.

So we took one of our old test listings that had a GBP website setup but no private URL website and ran a Geo grid report for some “shop” terms.

unnamed (36)

The primary category for this listing is “Print Shop” so we assumed if the domain extension did have any value, then registering a .shop domain, setting up a basic 1 page website with the exact same content from the GBP website, and swapping out the GBP website URL with the new “.shop” domain, would make our primary “shop” terms rank better.

This is exactly what we did, changing the website listed on the GBP from:

https://simple-merchandising-co.business.site/

To..

https://simplemerchandisingco.shop/

Now a week later, here is what we see when running the Geo grid:

unnamed (37)

From the reports we seem to have drastically expanded our reach and some local rankings as well have gone up.

Is important to note that this map is a big area with very little competition, which is why we chose to test on it. We are looking to test in a little more competitive area to see what type of impact that has but for this test we were only tracking a few “shop” keywords.

So we wanted to take the test one step further by repeating it, but using a different URL extension such as “.store”.

It’s important to note that we are tracking store terms on this listing, none of which showed any changes with the .shop URL change.

If our theory is correct and we repeat this process using a .store domain, we should potentially see those terms increase in local ranking and potentially the shop terms to decrease.

Join us again next week to find out more as we return to last week’s test and try to answer the question of this week…

“Does the domain URL extension matter for SEO?”

Until next time, Happy Testing!
