Are You Seeing Impact from the Helpful Content Update? + How to Auto Include GeoGrids in Your Reports

The Helpful Content Update started rolling out this week and could take up to 2 weeks to fully roll out. If you’ve seen any movement, drop it in the Local SEO Community!

“This update introduces a new site-wide signal that we consider among many other signals for ranking web pages.” While the effects of it may not show right away, this update will greatly impact the future of organic search.

If you are identifed as having ‘unhelpful content’ with little value, low-added value, or is otherwise not particularly helpful, all site content is at risk. Any and all content on that site is less likely to perform well.

Even worse…it could take months of recover rankings. The unhelpful content signal can be aplied to you for months.

Don’t want to be penalized in this update? Do a quick review of your clients’ sites for unhelpful and fluff content. Google specifically says, “removing unhelpful content could help the rankings of your other content.”

Need a Helpful Content Solution?

Get site content you can count on to be helpful with our Managed Search campaigns.

We write content for visitors, not for search engines.

Content from our campaigns will cover topics closely related to the niche and that the client is an experts on themselves.

We identify these high-value topics and niche-specific content clusters using an in-depth content gap analysis with competitors. We don’t follow trends, we set them.

By using detailed content briefs we can guide our writers to write in a way that adds value to anyone visiting the content, without just summarizing what other sites have already written about.

We never use any automation tools or AI writers to produce Blog Posts or Guest Posts for our campaigns. You can rest assured your content is in good hands.

If you start to see a dip in rankings, you can also request our FREE campaign recommendations to identify the issues.

Our NEWY UPDATED Google Data Studio Local Reporting Suite also launched this week! You will now be able to get actionable ranking reports in the form of GEOgrids and graphs that you can report to your clients. The service is designed to make your agency look like an analytics and reporting powerhouse.

Closing and Reopening a GBP, What Happens?

What happens when you mark a business temporarily closed?

Do you lose all your rankings?

Welcome back to another update, SEO mad scientist!

This week we are reviewing what happens when you mark a GBP listing as temporarily closed. Also, what happens when you make it open again…

This is a fun test because it’s something we rarely get to do with clients, as we can’t go closing their GBP listings to see how they react…

At the same time, we have received many questions from clients about marking a business as closed or temporarily closed and how it can impact them. So let’s take a look and find out!

unnamed (36)

Here we have our active listing that we marked temporarily closed on 8/17/2022.

unnamed (37)

Similar to our current GBP indexation test, it took about 3 days for our GBP to respond to the change, and Google stopped showing the business in search…

unnamed (38)

You can see the ranking drop when you look at the Geo grid rankings. However, even though some terms fell off completely, there are some main terms that Google still seems to be showing…

unnamed (39)

unnamed (40)

unnamed (41)

The exact category term and various terms we were ranking for due to services, products, and posts seem to have all lost ranking, while some term variations and longtail still show. These are probably lower-traffic terms and may take longer for the rankings to update. As we can see, all traffic has stopped.

The weirdest ranking is probably for our primary “brand” term, which is “merchandising.” This is a keyword and is part of our brand being “Simple Merchandising Co.”

Because people may still be searching for our brand, and Google must show them the company to tell them that it is closed, we believe this is why these terms are responding so weirdly. The following geo grids were all taken within 24 hours.

unnamed (42)

unnamed (43)

As we monitor the ranking over the next few days, we will see if we observe any more rankings drop off. Then we will be looking to answer the real question, “Will our rankings return completely when we reopen the business?”

Join us next week for another exciting update with the SEO mad scientist, and until then, happy testing!

GBP Indexation: How Long Does it Take?

Welcome back, SEO mad Scientists. We missed you last week, but we are back this week with some exciting GBP test updates…

Let’s jump right into it with new GBP indexation tests…

The first part of these tests is basic, “How long does it take for a GBP to ‘index’?”

We began by creating a new listing (the one in last week’s update) and did very little on listing optimization. No services, no description, just the business name, business hours, and category…

The business name is branded and does not contain any local or keyword terms or local or keyword term variations…

We didn’t begin with any on-listing optimization. We only built a basic website with some relevant pages and inner linking. The website itself was not heavily optimised, mostly just mentioned various services keywords we are tracking…

Right Out the gate, we are not showing for our brand or ANY SEO terms…

unnamed (28)

The website itself was put up on an old domain that was not indexed so upon putting up the GBP, the website we added to the listing was not indexed in Google’s search. We wanted to ensure everything was launched at the same time (within 24 hours)

For the first 48 hours, we didn’t have any visibility in Search. When searching for our exact brand name, we did not even see our GBP or website in organic or maps.

In about two and a half days we saw the listing official begin to show in search results for the Brand name in our tracking range.

unnamed (29)

We did not show for ANY keywords on our website or anything else, but the exact category we listed on the listing began to show in maps. Very limited but obvious that upon the initial listing going live in SERPs, Google seems to specifically look at the brand name and business category as the primary “indexing” factors.

unnamed (30)

We already assumed this to be true but did not know for sure or the exact time frames. From all possible keywords we are tracking, it’s important to note that the very first things Google showed us in SERPs for are the

In our other tests, we did not see a time period longer than 3 days for our listing to show in SERPs after going up.

There is a good chance that Google does not use the website for listing relevance initially even though we have seen evidence they do overall. Since we put the listing and the website live around the same time, we are also tracking the organic indexation and rankings of our website and upon the listing showing, the website itself is not indexed in organic search.

unnamed (32)

If the onsite impacts the listing, then we assume that once our website is indexed, we would see impacts on the listing would occur. This makes us question is the organic index is considered at all when ranking the GBP, or if maps has its own separate way of indexing website content in regards to GBP listings.

We will continue to watch the organic indexation and let you know as we track how long it takes to see results.

Join us next week for another update on the website’s impact on rankings, as well as a look into another part of our GBP tests, GBP service “products” indexation tests…

If you remember from previous tests, we have seen the impact of GBP products on maps rankings, so in this test, we wanted to see if we could use products to influence rankings on service keywords.

See you next week. Happy testing!

Gen Z and The Rise of Influencer Culture

Gen Z and The Rise of Influencer Culture
Research

Since the inception of the World Wide Web in 1991, the role of the social media influencer has grown exponentially. Beginning with users gathering on web forums and blogging sites to discuss topics of interest and in more recent years, YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, the way like-minded individuals have bound together has created the opportunity for those more out-spoken creators to lead the way online.

Approached by marketers who no doubt saw potential in some online users’ reputations, influencers began to accept freebies in return for promoting products and services online. Money would later become a more frequently accepted payment; some influencers can now make over 1 million dollars for a single social media post.

Today, there are influencers worldwide, with armies of fans creating waves and movements on social platforms. The American Influencer Council was launched in 2020 by creators for fellow creators to support the influencer marketing industry. Enabling brands to connect with consumers on a level never seen before, there is no denying that influencers of this age have taken on a ‘celebrity’ status.

In fact, our study has revealed that over 1 in 4 (26%) Gen Z trust influencer reviews more than product page reviews.

With this in mind, we asked Gen Z about the impact influencers, and content creators have on their lifestyles, buying habits, and future prospects.

When it came to members of Gen Z wanting to become social media influencers, we saw mind-blowing results from all regions across the USA – the lowest percentage sitting at just over 30% in the Midwest. Those from the West saw the highest percentage of individuals admitting that they would like to become an influencer at some point in their lives, with over 2 in 5. The Northeast follows closely behind with over 38% of Gen Z.

Taking a look at individual states, 41% of New York Gen Zs intend on becoming an influencer in the future, whilst 30% from LA also feel the same way.

Perhaps even more shockingly, our study found that Gen Z males (20%) are more likely than females (13%) to believe that being a social media influencer is the only choice of career for them, with almost half of the males surveyed (49%) agree that being a social media influencer is a good career choice.

Overall over 1 in 4 Gen Z surveyed plan to become social media influencers, with 16% even claiming that they would pay to become one.

Of those surveyed, over 38% agreed that there is enough work to become a social media influencer, with 34% believing that they know what it takes.

Nearly 1 in 5 Gen Z told us that they would quit their job to become a social media influencer, with just under 15% believing that it would be the only career choice for them. Additionally, over 12% of Gen Z told us that they would quit college to become an influencer.

When asked whether members of Gen Z plan to get a job after they finish school, 69% agreed, with 55% planning to attend college after completing their school studies. Interestingly, just over 27% of Gen Z in America plan to become social media influencers after finishing school.

According to the results of the study, nearly 1 in 4 Gen Z believe there should be social media influencer training in school, with 6% of Gen Z actively choosing not to go to college to become an influencer.

Results found that over 20% of Gen Z believe that the older generation doesn’t understand social media influencing, with just 8% of respondents claiming that their parents like them using social media. Nearly 1 in 4 Gen Z claimed that their parents follow them on social media, with almost 50% agreeing that their parents would prefer for them to go to college than become an influencer.

The study also found that 27% of Gen Z believe that their parents would be unsupportive of them becoming social media influencers, preferring for them to go to college (50.30%).

Of course, earnings are a huge talking point when it comes to being an influencer or content creator online. With this in mind, we asked Gen Z how much they thought an influencer would make in a year on average.

$75,001 – $100,000 was the most commonly guessed figure, followed by $50,001 – $75,000. Surprisingly, 10% of respondents told us that they thought influencers could earn between $5,001 and $10,000 per year, with just 2% selecting ‘over $100,000’.

Now, it’s no secret that with becoming an influencer comes a lot of benefits. We asked Gen Z what they thought the best benefits of being a social media influencer would be. In first place was “free products,” with 62% of respondents agreeing that this would be the best part about being an Influencer. Next was ‘earnings’ with 60.59%, whilst ‘meeting other influencers’ came in third place.

Also included in the line-up were gaining followers, traveling and holidays, and being a “celebrity.” When asked specifically about followers, we found that over 1 in 4 Gen Z post regularly on social media to gain followers, with men (35%) caring more about their follower count than women (31%).

We then asked Gen Z who their favorite social media influencers were. In the top spot is Charli D’Amelio, beating both Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner as Gen Z’s favorite content creators. The TikTok sensation who gained popularity for her dance videos on the platform has amassed a huge 193,900,000 combined followers on TikTok and Instagram.

In second place is James Charles, who rose to fame on YouTube before posting on TikTok when the app was launched in 2019. The 23-year-old is known for posting make-up tutorials and collaborating with celebrities.

Also included in the Top 10 are MR BEAST, Emma Chamberlain, Markiplier, Addison Rae, Kim Kardashian, CoryxKenshin, Jake Paul, and Kylie Jenner.

Of course, it is possible (and more common than not) to be a social media influencer across multiple platforms. However, for most, one platform, in particular, will dominate. So, we asked Gen Z which social media platform they would most like to be an Influencer on.

In response, nearly 40% of Gen Z told us that they would choose TikTok as their primary platform (37%), with over half (51%) believing it is easier to be a social media influencer on TikTok than on any other social media platform. Somewhat surprisingly, YouTube scrapes second place with 21.68%, whilst Instagram follows in third with 21.39%.

Just 7.13% of Gen Z responded that they would not want to be a social media Influencer.

It is safe to say that over the years, the line between ‘influencer’ and ‘celebrity’ has blurred. With influencer culture permeating the younger generations and becoming more prominent as time goes on, it is a movement unlikely to falter any time soon.

Influencer marketing has helped take brands to an entirely new level, increasing engagement among users online by creating content that resonates deeply with their followers. As popularity increases, so do instances of companies partnering with influencers; and our study has found that the majority of Gen Z feel that there is a place for them within this ever-growing, though saturated, industry.

Methodology

The research was conducted by Censuswide with 1,000 general consumers (nat rep) aged 16-25 in the USA between 26.07.22 to 28.07.22. Censuswide abides by and employs members of the Market Research Society, which are based on the ESOMAR principles.

This Week in the Lab with SEO Mad Scientist

Final GBP Verification Test Variations

Welcome back, SEO mad Scientists. We missed you last week, but we are back this week with some exciting GBP test updates…

Let’s jump right into it with some final GBP verification test variations.

Over the last few weeks, we have been putting up some new test GBP listings and have uncovered some new changes in the verification process.

You should know from previous weeks that certain signals seem to be triggering phone, e-mail and even instant verifications…

We wanted to conduct just a few final tests to see if we could pinpoint the major factors a little bit more.

What we previously knew is the following seemed to help trigger instant verification:

  • Using a cell phone number that is at the location
  • Using a Gmail account that is logged into the Andoird cell phone being used
  • Physically be at the location and signed onto local wifi
  • Set business and a local address on maps that does not service clients at their location

After 10+ listings, these seemed to be the biggest factors. But after testing a bit more, we found that being signed into the local wifi, a factor in triggering instant verification was most likely not the main factor, as we put up 6 additional test listings while not on the local network.

Finally, this last week we put up 3 more listings testing a few more variations.

  • No website
  • Non cell phone number
  • Service area business

All 3 triggered instant, or phone verification, and the NUMBER ONE factor that remained constant is that we used a Gmail account that was connected to an Android phone that was currently at the location…

We used a Twilio number, we didn’t add a website and even set one to a service area, and all three were verified.

We aren’t providing any images or listing details because so far, all the ones we have got suspended 😛

Next week we will start digging into some of the tests we have started with these listings, starting off first with “How long does it take for a listing to ‘index’?”

We have put up quite a few listings now and have noticed some interesting “sandbox” situations that seem to impact how the GBP performs after first being launched. Join us next week for a GBP “indexation” time test, and until then,

As always…

Happy Testing!

GBP (GMB Listing) Suspended: Here’s What You Should Do to Reinstate

GBP (GMB Listing) Suspended: Here’s What You Should Do to Reinstate

GBP (GMB Listing) Suspended: Here’s What You Should Do to Reinstate

Did your Google listing get suspended? Depending on the reason for suspension you may be unsure how to proceed. We’re here to help you work through the GMB suspension process so you know what to do when your listing is suspended!

We will start by determining the cause of the listing suspension and the types of suspensions you may encounter. Then, we will work through the steps to take to reinstate your listing.

What is a GBP Suspension?

A listing suspension is when Google flags your listing for violating one or multiple of their terms of service (TOS). When the listing is suspended, it is removed from the local search results so searchers cannot find the business.

In order to better detect spam, fake listings, and fraud, Google’s local algorithm has become more sensitive to TOS violations. This means your GMB listings are under higher scrutiny, especially across industries like locksmiths, garage doors, and home services, , which has always been more affected. Even if you do not intentionally violate Google’s guidelines (or violate them at all), your listing can still be suspended.

Keep in mind, Google does not alert you when a suspension hits, so you must monitor your listings proactively. You will know you have been hit by a suspension when your GBP listing is no longer visible on Google Search and Google Maps. You will also not be able to make changes to the listing once it is suspended.

Why Listing Suspensions Matter

Google’s map pack, which features local listings, is shown at the top in 93% of local searches. Additionally, 64% of searchers use Google My Business to find contact details and reviews about a local business according to Bright Local’s study.

Getting hit with a suspension could lead to a significant loss of lead flow, especially for smaller businesses on tighter budgets that rely more heavily on their listings for calls and lead generation. We have seen many businesses struggle with leads after their listing is suspended.

Types of Listing Suspensions

There are three types of suspensions you’ll mostly come across. Each of these scenarios can cause different issues.

  • Soft suspensions
  • Hard suspensions
  • Account suspensions

Soft Suspensions

With soft suspensions, your GMB listing still appears on Search and in Maps, but will show as “Unverified” and you will no longer have control or can manage it. Moreover, the listing becomes prone to others suggesting edits or claiming your profile. This puts your listing at risk. Your competitors can suggest incorrect edits or even claim your listing to get ownership over it.

A soft suspension can usually be resolved in a few steps and we recommend addressing this as soon as possible. Reasons for a soft suspension include:

  • Business name changes
  • Business address changes
  • Phone number changes
  • Map pin changes
  • Primary category changes

Hard Suspensions

A hard suspension is when your Google My Business listing is no longer visible on Search and Maps, generally due to a TOS violation. This type of suspension is more serious and more difficult to address.

Receiving a hard suspension will results in a significant drop or total loss of leads, website clicks, storefront visits, and potentially having your accumulated reviews removed forever. This will significantly impact your local business. If not addressed, it can severely impact the business’s ability to make money and pay bills.

In order to get this type of suspension removed, you must follow Google’s protocol for addressing the issues. The process will take much longer to get back on track, so get started early. It can sometimes be challenging to get a response from Google. In some instances it has taken months of consistent follow up. But, under no circumstances should you create a new duplicate listing during this time. It will only prolong the overall process.

Account Suspensions

This type of suspension occurs when a Google account with ownership rights to the GBP listing gets suspended. This creates a domino effect where all or several listings owned by  that account are suspended. If Google reinstates the owner’s accounts, then their listings get reinstated too (most of the time).

In cases where the manager account gets suspended, they’ll only suspend the manager account on the listing. The listings themselves will be unaffected. If the manager account gets reinstated, they’ll immediately regain managerial rights on the listings where they were previously suspended.

For this reason, you have to be careful with your Google accounts. You do not want to be flagged for suspicious or spammy activities by violating Google’s Terms of Service, especially  if you are the owner of any GMB listings.

When you get hit by a listing suspension, and you get reinstated, the owner and managers of the listing will also get reinstated. However, with listing suspensions, you can still make edits to your GMB listing and appeal for reinstatements, while with account suspensions, that is no longer the case.

reasons why Google My Business listings get suspended?

Google wants searchers to get the best, most accurate search results possible. So, they depend on trustworthy, up-to-date, and accurate business information on local listings.

There are many reasons GBP listings get suspended, and it can be difficult to determine why the listing is suspended since Google doesn’t give you a reason. Generally, listings are suspended for engaging in spammy tactics, providing misinformation, or not following Google’s guidelines.

Oftentimes, listings are suspended because Google simply analyzes the listings when red flags mentioned below arise. Someone can also report your listing through Google’s Redressal Form. Google will then review the listing and potentially give a Manual Suspension if they find issues with your GBP listing. Users can also use the ‘Suggesting edits’ feature to update info on your listing, and if they are trusted enough by Google, those changes could take immediate effect.

Below are the most common reasons why listings may get suspended. However, there can be other reasons for suspensions, like algorithm updates, a glitch on Google’s end, or other extraneous factors. You can cause your listing to get suspended if you do any of the following:

Make several edits to your listing at once

We don’t generally recommend making more than one major edit to your listing at a time. It can be dangerous. For example, you do not want to update the business name and change the listing to a SAB at the same time.

Display A Physical Address When You Should Be A Service Area Business (SAB) or Change from one type to the other

If your business has a physical location where customers come your listing should display the address. This makes it easy for potential customers “If your business doesn’t have a storefront with clear signage but travels to customers at their physical locations, you’re allowed one service-area Business Profile.” according to Google’s guidance

There are also hybrid listings where the business has a physical location they welcome customers and employees that go out to service different areas. If you are unsure which type of listing your business falls under, read Google’s guidelines on listing types.

Changing the type of listing is not necessarily dangerous, but it is a big change for an already-established listing. If you are making this change, be sure you’re in line with the guidance from Google.

Use a P.O. Box or UPS Store address

“P.O. boxes or mailboxes located at remote locations aren’t acceptable,” according to Google. We do not recommend using PO Boxes unless it is your absolute last resort. If you choose this method you must be aware that you are at risk of suspension.

List your business hours as 24/7

Google wants you to provide the hours your business is front facing, meaning someone is in the office. Most businesses are not staffed 24/7, which is why there is more scrutiny around listing your hours.

The hours on your GBP listing don’t match your website or other directories where your business is listed

Google can cross reference your listing information with other published information online. Be sure your listing matches up with the other info on the web. This actually goes for all aspects of a business’s listing.

Keyword stuffing your business name (Or including anything Besides the business name)

This directly goes against Google’s guidelines. Your listing name should be your official business name and that is it. Do not add any extra keywords. Google says, “accurately represent your business name. Your name should reflect your business’s real-world name, as used consistently on your storefront, website, stationery, and as known to customers.”

Setting up your business at a virtual office or a co-working space address

Unfortunately, “If your business rents a physical mailing address but doesn’t operate out of that location, also known as a virtual office, that location isn’t eligible for a Business Profile” in Google’s eyes. You may be able to get a listing at that address, but you are technically in violation of Google’s guidelines. This means you’re at risk of a suspended listing.

You have an online-only type of business

These types of businesses are technically not supposed to have a GMB listing unless there is a storefront or office. According to Google, “To qualify for a Business Profile on Google, a business must make in-person contact with customers during its stated hours.” If you have an online business with no physical address, you can be at risk of suspension.

The URL on your Listing redirects to A Different Business’s website or a social media page

The website connected to your listing should ALWAYS link to your company’s website. If you don’t have a website, link to the free GMB site. Linking to another website or social media account for your brand not only leads users away from your business, but it’s also against Google’s policy. Google wants you to, “provide a website that represents your individual business location.”

Be sure your listing links to the corresponding website. If you have a different business’s domain this can be a quick red flag to Google.

Duplicate listings – multiple listings for the same business at the same address

You are only allowed one listing per business per location. If you have multiple locations you can have multiple listings, but you could not have multiple listings for each dentist in the office for example.

It’s also worth mentioning that Google will only rank one listing per address in any industry. Google does not recognize suite numbers, so if you’re in an office building with multiple law firms only one will be shown. This filtering can be a big challenge to overcome, especially in larger office buildings where there are many businesses in the same industry.

One of the Owner/Manager Accounts on your listing got suspended

Chances are if the account owning or managing the listing is suspended, the listing will also be automatically suspended. However, this is not always the case. We have seen many cases where some listings under an account get suspended while others remain active.

If You’re In a High-Risk Category, You’re At Higher Risk of suspensions

These categories have more fake, and spam listings in general and are known to be more inclined to suspensions, which is why they’re under more intense scrutiny:

  • Locksmiths
  • Garage Door Companies
  • Plumbers
  • HVAC
  • Lawyers
  • Pest control
  • Rehab centers

Most of these categories are usually service area businesses.

What to do if you face a Hard Suspension?

  1. Check if you can determine why your GBP listing got suspended—correct anything before moving on to the next steps.
  2. Review the Google My Business Terms of Service and Guidelines to see if you have violated any.
  3. Appeal for Reinstatement following Google’s protocol.

Contacting Google My Business Help Forum with your issue and listing details should be done before submitting the reinstatement form. Provide as much information as you can, including your GMB listing URL.

Once you have undergone these steps, it’s time to submit your appeal for reinstatement. There are many questions on the form, and you will need to answer carefully and honestly.

How to appeal a Suspension for reinstatement?

You will need to prove that you are a legitimate business by providing photos and screenshots of:

  • Permanent signage outside of your business location/storefront/building
  • The interior of your business location
  • Your storefront, as seen from the street
  • Street view image of the neighborhood of your business location
  • Business License
  • Insurance documents
  • Office walk-through video
  • Pictures of the company logo on your business vehicle, if applicable (SABs)
  • If a shared office space, provide images of your office’s building directory where your name is also listed
  • You can upload images, PDFs, videos, and document files.

After providing everything to prove your business is legitimate, Google may contact you to require additional documents. Make sure you deliver what is needed.

When Can You Expect to Hear Back From Google?

Usually, you can expect to hear back about your reinstatement status within two weeks, but sometimes it may take longer. However, do not file multiple reinstatement appeals, as this will prolong the process. Be patient and continue to follow up with Google regularly. Consistency is key in many cases.

If you don’t hear back after 3-4 weeks, you can contact Google via Twitter, Facebook, or Google Business Profile Support via email and ask for an update. Google may need proof that you are the account owner; providing the URL of your Google Business Profile Dashboard or the GBP CID number will work.

If your GBP listing gets reinstated, you may notice that your reviews and local search rankings are sometimes lost. For your reviews to appear after reinstatement, it may take up to 1 month. However, you can contact Google Business Profile’s support team if you don’t see them show up after one month.

Final Thoughts

Suspensions happen to almost all businesses at some point. Make sure you follow these guidelines and keep track of Google Business Profile Terms of Service to stay on the safe side. If your clients want to engage in spammy practices, like keyword stuffing their business name, be sure to provide ample warnings!

Always prioritize long-term optimization strategies over short-term strategies to avoid risking suspensions that will take time to reverify and stabilize.

If you need help to determine the cause of your suspension and what you can do before and while submitting a reinstatement appeal with Google, here at Web 2.0 Ranker, we can provide you with the help and messaging required when contacting Google.

Press releases are a crucial part of any SEO strategy. But there are huge differences in the quality of press releases.

A press release is your chance to strengthen your online brand with notable news placements and build links to rank your website higher. If you’re published on the right platforms, it can also increase your traffic and brand awareness.

Researching, comparing, and evaluating your press release options can make or break your final product. When looking for press releases it’s important to make informed choices. You must choose a press release service that provides access to the channels you need to strengthen your client’s brand, authority, and link graph.

This blog compares the Web 2.0 Ranker press release service with AB Newswire, focusing on the Targeted Media Outreach and Premium Syndication options. There are many factors to consider when evaluating your press options, so we get pretty in-depth.

Web 2.0 Ranker vs. AB Newswire at a Glance

Cheaper Press Release Writing & Syndication

If you’re looking for a press service that will write your press release and syndicate it out to publishers, our service is a little more affordable.

Stronger Indexation Rates

For maximum impact, you need your content to index. Our press releases index around 15%+, while their prs only index at about 5%.

DoFollow News Links

The AB Newswire does not offer an option for DoFollow links, but we have an entire DoFollow News Links Service with high referring domain numbers.

Add White Label Reporting to Any Press Release

While the AB Newswire only offers white label reporting to bulk orders, we offer this as an add-on to any press release you order. Whether your agency orders 2 or 20, we can take care of the reporting!

Higher Open Rates for Targeted Media Outreach

Our manual outreach open rates are some of the best in the industry! We achieve at least a 15% open rate on every campaign, but most campaigns exceed 20% on our manual outreach emails. If you have a highly newsworthy topic, this is even higher.

Remember, it’s not about how many contacts the service sends to, it’s about how many of those contacts actually open the email and respond…

Larger Database for Targeted Media Outreach

From our database of over 1 million contacts, we create a custom outreach list built just for that news content and client. AB Newswire has over 150,000 fewer contacts than us. That means you can offer better flexibility for your clients’ specific needs

Site / Service ease of use

Site is a bit confusing because there are SO many press options, but pricing is straight forward and most info is up-to-date or being updated

Service – we currently do all the work for you, so just buy whatever press service you need, submit your info and we do the rest

Site has a fair amount of outdated info. Pricing and service options are easy to find and maneuver. Some of their subscription pricing is a bit confusing, and not detailed enough.

Service – you have to do the work with ABN. Sure they will write the PR for you (if ordered), but you have to upload the article and info into their platform to push it out for syndication

Expertly Written Press Releases For Any Business

A well-written press release can help you gain traction with the media and generate buzz around your brand, news or product. Web 2.0 Ranker’s Press Releases are expertly written for your business by senior writers trained specifically in press release writing. You will not have to worry about the hassle of writing your press releases and the requirements of getting your content published. All you need to fill out to start your campaign is the Company Name, Email address for contact (to be displayed on the release), Country, and Website URL.

We will ask for your link information: Anchor Text and URLs (Two anchor text and URL sets, as well as one naked URL to your main website). You may choose to supply all naked URLs if you prefer. Check out our SEO Press Tactics blog to see what links we recommend for local & national campaigns and more: https://web20ranker.com/press-release-seo-strategies/

Syndicated to 450+ News Outlets and 1000+ Email Contacts

When it comes to Premium Syndication Web 2.0 Ranker offers 461 outlets and growing, while on the other hand AB Newswire has 495 outlets. However, 450+ out of 461 outlets of Web 2.0 Ranker (W20R) advertise while only 400+ out of 495 outlets of AB Newswire (ABN) advertise. Taking this into consideration Web 20 Ranker syndicates to almost as many outlets as ABN does and many of the sites within W20R’s distribution list are better than the sites you’ll get with ABN. W20 has over 100+ manually google news approved sites as well as other high-quality featured sites and add-on opportunities.

Moreover, for the Targeted Media Outreach, W20R offers 1000+ Email contacts with the option to upgrade to 2000+ and an open rate of 15% while AB Newswire’s current order had over 7k contacts. Depending on the niche contact list is 3k+ but has an open rate of only 6%.

Custom Press Releases

Not two businesses are the same and even when they belong to the same niche to build the authority you are seeking for your clients you need to customize their campaign as much as possible. The same goes for press releases and that’s why at Web 2.0 Ranker we go above and beyond to offer you customizable Press Releases with our premium syndication. When compared to ABN, W20R takes it up a notch with the ability to customize the perfect PR solution for you, without having to pay for content that does not meet your expectations. With Web 20, you’ll get to pick all the media enhancements that are right for you, including publishing to NewsMax or Voice Search, senior writer for the best quality writing, publishing on AP News, and more. Meanwhile, ABN offers Web Syndication and Targeted Media options and no add-ons or extra features.

Web 20 Ranker is also doing all of the work for you. While ABN requires you to submit your article through their platform and, with Web 20, you provide the company details and we handle everything from writing to syndication and reporting. Press releases have never been easier!

Prices and Packages

At first glance, the targeted media outreach from AB Newswire might look like a better deal. ABN has different targeted media options including state, regional, national, and global, with the state being the cheapest option and it going upwards.

On the contrary, Web 20 Ranker does not offer different targeted media packages based on the area you want to target. So what does that mean? There are no limitations on the targeting you’ll get with a campaign at Web 20 Ranker. No matter the industry and how many different locations within the US a company is targeting, Web 20 Ranker is going to build the best media/journalist outreach list based on ALL those details, not limit you to 1 area or 5 industry targets like ABN does.

Web 2.0 Ranker vs. AB Newswire: The Takeaway

You might be wondering “If ABN got over 7,000 contacts and Web 20 Ranker only got 1,000 – how is Web 20 the better service?” Well, one thing we can assure you is that, even with Web 2.0 Ranker’s database of 1 million+ contacts, with the criteria and efforts we put in place to create the best-targeted list, Web 2.0 Ranker could comfortably create a list of over 7,000 contacts for many niches without having to go way too broad. So while we are only sending your PR out to 1,000 contacts (or 2,000 if you grab the upgrade), you can rest assured that those chosen contacts matter and for one reason or another, are relevant to the brand/PR topic, increasing the chances that they might pick up the story. With Web 2.0 Ranker you are always getting Quality over Quantity!

Also, at Web 2.0 Ranker we land actual placements, actual interviews, and actual partnerships in the different media opportunities that come from the targeted outreach. We do not limit our clients to selecting 1 location and 5 niches/industry targets. We consider the whole of the campaign, without location/niche limits, and put together a real custom list of media outreach opportunities. No pre-made niche-specific lists at Web 2.0 Ranker.

What You Need To Know About Local SEO

What You Need To Know About Local SEO

What You Need To Know About Local SEO

While many businesses are aware of the importance of search engine optimization, they aren’t nearly as familiar with the ins and outs of local SEO services. Localized SEO has the same overriding concepts as ranking for a term nationally or regionally, but there are really important differences in how you can go about ranking locally versus on a broader and more general scale. While the goal might be the same in both cases, there are very different focuses and strategies for how to get there.

Who Is Local SEO For?

Localized SEO is mostly for small businesses who serve a very specific location or area. Local plumbers, contractors, a small town attorney, these are all examples of some of the many businesses that would want to rank for local area searches but wouldn’t have any use for people finding their website several states away or in another country.

However, local businesses often can always use more customers, and having a website that ranks near the top of all their most important keywords will make a huge difference in the number of customers and the amount of business done.

What Are The Most Important Factors For Ranking Locally?

When it comes to ranking for local SEO one of the first things that needs to be taken care of are listings. Google, Yahoo, and Bing not only have map listings for business, but they also have separate business listings. These can be claimed by any local business and not only has them show up on the maps that so often show up at the top of local service searches.

In addition to this, these listings often count as basic backlinks, which also help out SEO on the local level. Some things in SEO remain consistent!

In addition to these listings, a lot of work needs to be done on the website itself. Any local business website needs to have its contact information in easy to spot places, and have a clear contact page on their website. All title tags, meta tags, and alt tags need to be properly optimized, but as long as this is done with clear coding and a good design, that’s the first step to getting attention.

Finally, some off-page link building or getting a strong social media footprint to gather backlinks from social sources. Link building can be a little bit trickier with local sites but when done correctly it is powerfully effective.

In Summary

When it comes to local SEO, it’s very possible to rank highly in most places with just a little help and the right knowledge. Unless a business is located in a big city with a lot of competition it’s usually easier to rank a local site since so few businesses understand SEO, but if you’re located in a competitive city that’s all the more reason to find some reliable and experienced SEO help! Local SEO doesn’t need to remain a mystery. Follow the information in this article and you will be on your way.

This Week in the Lab with SEO Mad Scientist

GMB: How Do Services Impact Rankings? + Listing Verifications

Welcome back to more exciting local tests!

We took a break from our current test schedule after finding out some new aspects to GBP verifications. Last week we had verified some listings with our cell phone number and being on the local wifi. This week we have some new tests and results to report, so lets jump right into it…

First, a quick follow up on our previous “poster” ranking test, for listing that listed “posters” as a service and we added a review for someone competing about their poster purchase.

The only references we have to “poster” is in the services and the review. The impacts are clear to see…

unnamed (88)

New/Current Rankings for “Posters”:

unnamed (89)

unnamed (90)

We saw initial ranking improvement early on but are now showing in the top three and continue to move upward. This could be a sign of the importance of age for these signals, or Google is possibly increasing the weight on these two signals (services and reviews)

We don’t know for sure but what does seem clear is having services listed on your listing and then having people add reviews on your listing referencing the exact services you list, increases listing relevance for those services…

Now onto the verifications! We got some new listings to show you that we didn’t even need local wifi!

In fact, one is at a WalMart and the other is at a bowling ally…

unnamed (91)

Here is the quick rundown of the details:

  • We where at the location with a cell phone and computer

  • Location services turned on both devices

  • Using phone wifi as a hotspot for internet

  • Added GBP from GBP dashboard

  • Used cell phone number as business phone number

  • Added non local website (phone number is on website but wasn’t previously)

unnamed (92)

Second Verification:

unnamed (93)

After all our testing we have noticed that non-SABs that list an address on maps seem to have the best chance at triggering phone or instant verification. (or better chance of getting verified at all) We speculate that this may be due to the fact that Googles main concern when listing a “location” on Google is that they can confirm that “you” (your contact details) are actually at the address and accessible from the location.

Also, SABs are more prone to spam due to the fact that lead gens use a service area and fake address to gain exposure with Google Maps

This is why we believe that using the cell phone number while at the location, and on the computer, triggers a phone verify. Google knows the phone is at that location so they just need to confirm you actually have access to it. That seems to currently be enough to convince Google to verify the listing.

Join us next time for more exciting updates with the SEO Mad Scientist!

Until next week, Happy Testing!
