Ethereum, the first Bitcoin alternative on our list, is a decentralised software platform that enables the development and execution of smart contracts and decentralised applications (Dapps) without the risk of downtime, fraud, third-party control, or intervention. Ethereum’s mission is to create a decentralised suite of financial products that anybody on the planet, regardless of nationality, ethnic background, or creed, can freely access. This feature underscores the ramifications for citizens in certain countries, as those lacking official infrastructure and identification can obtain bank accounts, credit, insurance, and a number of other financial items.

While Bitcoin remains the market leader in terms of market capitalization, it faces stiff competition from altcoins such as Ethereum (eth), Tether (usdt), Binance Coin (bnb), Cardano (ADA), and Polkadot (dot) as of March 2021. Additionally, because of the low entry barrier, new initial coin offerings (icos) are always being planned. Investors gain from the crowded field because it keeps prices down. Bitcoin, thankfully, benefits from widespread knowledge, giving it a leg over on its opponents.

A widespread crypto meltdown on Wednesday wiped off almost $1 trillion in market value. The sell-off began after the Chinese government imposed additional limitations on bitcoin transactions within the country’s borders. Beijing’s statements shocked an already nervous crypto market, as Bitcoin fell 30% to $30,000, its lowest level since January. Ethereum dropped more than 40% of its value, while dogecoin and binance lost over 30%.

Ether Could Overtake Bitcoin as Store of Value, Goldman Sachs Says

On Wednesday, despite some bullish analyst sentiment, Ethereum (crypto: eth) is trading in the green, outperforming the broader crypto trading platform market. What is happening: According to a Business Insider report, Ethereum may soon overtake bitcoin (crypto: btc) as the biggest store of value in the cryptocurrency industry. According to the global investment bank, eth “today looks to be the cryptocurrency with the highest real-world application potential, as ethereum, on which it is built, is the most popular platform for developing smart-contract applications.”

Goldman Sachs analysts have reiterated their bullish outlook on ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency trading platform in the world. Goldman Sachs highlighted why it believes Ethereum will eventually become a more robust store of wealth than Bitcoin in a note to investors on Tuesday. The investment bank believes Ethereum today has the greatest potential for real-world use, according to the study. According to surveys, it is the most often used platform for developing intelligent contract applications.

Luni is powered by a powerful trading engine equipped with a slew of innovative capabilities. While the system is secure and reliable, it is limited to exchanging Bitcoin and Ethereum. The site is simple to navigate, and step-by-step instructions will guide you through each procedure. Luno was a pioneer in the field of cryptocurrency trading on digital platforms.

Bitcoin return data are presented for educational purposes only and should not be considered as investment advice in Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency trading platform. Cryptocurrencies as an asset class have showed a higher degree of volatility than any other investment featured on this page in calculator format. (For instance, take a look at the Ethereum and Litecoin return calculators.) When it comes to bitcoins, the time of day at which they are bought or sold has a big impact on investor performance. As we discussed in our 2017 piece on bitcoin returns, bitcoin is closer to speculation than investment.

Ethereum-based applications are funded by Ether, the platform’s native cryptographic coin. Ether serves as a platform for developers to build and execute applications on the Ethereum network, and is now sought after by investors wishing to use Ether to purchase other digital currencies. Ether was founded in 2015 and is currently the second-largest crypto digital currency by market value, trailing only Bitcoin, albeit significantly. As of January 2021, Ether’s market capitalisation is around 19 percent of bitcoin’s.

On a regular basis, this site aggregates news and information regarding bitcoin, ethereum, dogecoin, and other cryptocurrency trading platforms. The values of cryptocurrency trading platforms fluctuate drastically and remain exceedingly unpredictable. Even the most popular cryptocurrency tokens have seen significant price shifts, including Bitcoin, Ether (not to be confused with the Ethereum network, for which Ether is the native token), Dogecoin, Litecoin, and Ripple.

Is Ethereum better than Bitcoin?

Due to Ethereum’s status as the second largest cryptocurrency behind Bitcoin, it is simple to purchase or trade on virtually all major cryptocurrency exchanges. Several of the world’s major markets are located in this region.

Numerous similarities between cryptocurrencies and Ponzi schemes, pyramid schemes, and other types of frauds, as well as economic bubbles, such as those in the housing market, have been made. According to Howard Marks of Oaktree Capital Management, digital currencies are “nothing more than an unfounded fad (or perhaps even a Ponzi scheme) based on a willingness to ascribe value to something that has little or no intrinsic value beyond what people are willing to pay for it,” comparable to the tulip mania (1637), the South Sea bubble (1720), and the dot-com bubble (1999). The New Yorker described the controversy in a storey about the “battle over whether Bitcoin, Ethereum, and the blockchain are reshaping the world” through interviews with blockchain founders.

The Bitcoin return statistics presented are for educational purposes only and should not be considered as investment advice for Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies. Cryptocurrencies as an asset class have showed greater volatility than any other investment we have featured in calculator form on our site. (For instance, take a look at the Ethereum and Litecoin Return Calculators.) Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency investors have witnessed both spectacular rises and heinous falls. We continue to propose to the great majority of investors that they maintain a constant asset allocation and invest in index funds that are passively managed

What is an Ethereum smart contract?

Chainlink is a decentralised oracle network that enables the formulation and execution of smart contracts connected to external data, such as Ethereum. Blockchains are incapable of securely connecting to third-party applications. Chainlink’s decentralised oracles enable intelligent contracts to communicate with data that is not kept on Ethereum, allowing for the execution of contracts that are based on data that Ethereum does not have access to.

Ethereum is a decentralised, open-source blockchain technology that contains the Ethereum cryptocurrency. Eth serves as a platform for the execution of a range of other cryptocurrencies and decentralised smart contracts. Ethereum was initially stated in a whitepaper by Vitalik Buterin in 2013. Buterin and his co-founders raised cash for the project through a public online crowd sale in the summer of 2014, and the blockchain formally launched on 30 July 2015.

Ethereum is a software platform based on distributed ledger technology that facilitates the global transmission and receipt of value via the usage of its native coin. Without the assistance of a third party. However, it is far more capable. Ethereum was founded in 2013 by Vitalik Buterin, a Russian-Canadian programmer, to increase the utility of cryptocurrencies by enabling developers to design their own specialised apps. In comparison to traditional programmes, these Ethereum-based ones, called “decentralised apps,” run autonomously due to the use of smart contracts.

Ethereum hit the market just as the world was becoming accustomed to the concept of Bitcoin trading. It was launched in late 2013 as a platform for smart contracts and decentralised applications by Vitalik Buterin, a cryptocurrency researcher and programmer. Like Bitcoin, Ethereum is an open-source platform that makes use of blockchain technology to enable the creation and operation of decentralised digital applications, or “dapps.” It enables users to engage into agreements and conduct transactions directly with other parties for the purpose of purchasing, selling, and trading things and services without the use of intermediaries.

What can Ethereum be used for?

Ethereum hosted an exceptional pre-sale for Ether in 2014, which helped usher in the era of Initial Coin Offerings (ico). Ethereum, according to ethereum, can be used to “encode, decentralise, secure, and trade pretty much anything.” Following an attack on a decentralised autonomous organisation (dao) in 2016, ethereum was split into two versions: ethereum (eth) and ethereum classic (etc.). As of January 2021, Ethereum (eth) has a market capitalization of $138. Three billion and a per-token value of $1,218.59.

Ethereum 2. 0 is a collection of connected enhancements aimed at increasing the scalability, security, and sustainability of Ethereum.

This morning, Ethereum’s value climbed, extending a solid start to the day for cryptocurrencies in general. Its price jumped by 3.8 percent to $2,395 at 8 a.m. today from $2,308 at 11 p.m. yesterday.

Learn how Ethereum can assist you in developing new business models, reducing costs, and future-proofing your firm.

What are the benefits of a decentralized ethereum Platform?

Ethereum’s vision is to become a global platform for decentralised applications, enabling people from all over the world to design and run software that is unaffected by censorship, outage, or fraud.

Market capitalization of above 51 billion dollars
Cardano, which entered the crypto world a little later, is notable for being the first to employ proof-of-stake validation. By removing the competing, problem-solving component of transaction verification prevalent in platforms such as Bitcoin, our method reduces transaction times, energy consumption, and environmental effect. As with Ethereum, Cardano enables intelligent contracts and decentralised apps via the use of its native coin, ADA.

Intelligent contracts are Ethereum-based programmes that execute predetermined activities automatically when certain parameters are met. This can include everything from initiating a transaction in reaction to a specific event to lending funds in exchange for collateral kept in a certain wallet. These smart contracts constitute the backbone of all decentralised applications (Dapps) built on Ethereum and other blockchain platforms.

Ethereum is credited with creating the concept of an innovative contract platform based on blockchain technology. Smart contracts are computer programmes that automate the process of enforcing an agreement between multiple parties via the internet. They are designed to do away with the need for trusted middlemen to conduct transactions between contractual parties, hence cutting transaction costs while increasing transaction security. Ethereum’s primary contribution to innovation was the development of a platform for intelligent contracts on the blockchain, considerably boosting the already-existing benefits of inventive contract technology. According to co-founder Gavin Wood, Ethereum’s blockchain was envisioned as a type of “one computer for the entire world,” theoretically capable of increasing the durability, censorship resistance, and fraud resistance of any software by running it on a globally distributed network of public nodes.

What’s the downside of decentralized Ethereum applications?

A blockchain account can be used for a variety of purposes beyond money transactions, such as decentralised applications or smart contracts. Occasionally, fungible tokens (or units thereof) are referred to as crypto-tokens (or crypto-tokens). These terms are often used to refer to fungible tokens that are not the principal coin of the blockchain, i.e. fungible tokens issued within an intelligent contract running on a blockchain such as Ethereum. Additionally, non-fungible tokens exist.

Ethereum was the first project to implement smart contracts on a broad scale. Smart contracts enable developers to create decentralised applications (dapps) for mobile and desktop computers on the blockchain. Thousands of tokens exist on the Ethereum network, and it was these tokens that spurred the Initial Coin Offering (ICO) boom. The greatest cryptocurrency to purchase is ethereum, which was founded by Vitalik Buterin. Despite his youth, he has developed a reputation as a committed bitcoin expert. Additionally, Joseph Lubin is a co-founder of Ethereum and Consensys, a New York-based software development corporation specialising in the development of decentralised Ethereum applications.

How are ether and gas distinguished?
Ether (eth) is the Ethereum blockchain’s virtual token and the principal “fuel” that powers its whole operation. The phrase “gas” refers to the amount of ether required to perform a specific network operation, such as transaction sending (exchanging, trading or moving Ethereum-based tokens).
interface development with distributed applications and intelligent contract development
We are creating non-fungible tokens, or Nfts.

Additionally, Ethereum is a very liquid asset, sometimes ranking second or third to Bitcoin. It should be straightforward to purchase or sell Ethereum.

What apps are currently being developed on Ethereum?

Numerous decentralised applications (Dapps) are being created on the Ethereum blockchain and are being funded via an initial coin offering (ICO). Thus, comprehending how Ethereum is performing at the time is really beneficial. Initial Coin Offerings (icos) allow developers to sell the concept of their product in order to raise funds for its development — think of it as a Kickstarter for decentralised applications (dapps). Consider some of the decentralised applications (dapps) that are being built (or have already been developed) on Ethereum using icos.

Cardano was founded in September 2017 by Charles Hoskinson, a co-founder of Ethereum, a cryptocurrency trading platform. Cardano, like Ethereum, was created to facilitate the development of decentralised applications and smart contracts. The distinction between Cardano and ethereum, like with eos, lies in the significant technological breakthroughs over ethereum technology. Cardano, like eos and neo, is regarded to be the third and most advanced generation of blockchain technology, putting it among the top 10 cryptocurrencies. in the year 2021.

Ethereum Classic (etc.) is a hard fork of Ethereum that occurred in July 2016. (eth). Its primary purpose is to serve as a sophisticated contract network capable of hosting and supporting decentralised applications ( dapps ). etc. is the native token of this object. Ethereum Classic has worked to differentiate itself from Ethereum from its start, with the two networks’ technical roadmaps becoming increasingly divergent over time.

Your body has an extraordinary ability to repair itself. Sometimes the body needs to be guided. Acupuncture stimulates the body’s inherent healing mechanisms by opening and relaxing muscles and establishing new energy flow channels. It aids in treating pain, anxiety, depression, headaches, acupuncture for weight loss, and various other ailments. It has been used to heal numerous diseases for over 2,000 years, and the current study has proven it to be highly effective.

For thousands of years, traditional Chinese and Korean medicine has been practiced. Physicians have utilized acupuncture in the United States since the 1800s. With the ongoing popularity of this age-old treatment, researchers were forced to conduct a more in-depth, scientific examination of what acupuncture has to offer.

Acupuncture is currently thought to promote fertility and aid in weight loss, pain relief, and stress reduction. As a result, while most Western practitioners use acupuncture to treat pain, some academics and doctors believe it may also aid with contraception.

A growing weight of evidence-based study from western scientific research supports the efficacy of acupuncture in treating a wide range of illnesses. According to the most recent and high-quality systematic research, integrating acupuncture into typical therapy offers clinically substantial advantages.

Acupuncture stimulates the nervous system and induces the release of neurochemical messenger molecules in Western medicine. The chemical changes that ensue impact the body’s homeostatic processes, supporting physical and emotional well-being. Acupuncture point stimulation has been found to influence brain regions known to decrease pain and stress sensitivity.

Through knee pain therapy, Aligned Modern Health examines all potential avenues of alleviation for our patients. When coupled with weight loss programs and physical rehabilitation, acupuncture may be pretty successful.

Our doctors want to do more than relieve pain for their patients; they also want to help them rehabilitate and avoid recurrent knee issues. Although many patients see improvements in joint function after just one treatment, aligned contemporary health advises a series of treatments for long-term healing.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

acupuncture for fertility

As with any other therapy, consult your doctor before starting acupuncture. To ensure that acupuncture is safe, it is essential to discuss it with the interested individual. In some instances, acupuncture may aggravate an underlying illness.

In people prone to bleeding or taking blood thinners, acupuncture needles might induce bleeding or severe bruises. Acupuncture, which involves delivering electrical pulses to the hand, can cause a pacemaker to malfunction if the patient has one. If you are pregnant, acupuncture may induce labor and increase your chances of having a preterm baby.

Work, family, and social commitments are all sources of stress. The need to perform, stay awake, succeed, and push yourself to your limitations. A seemingly endless stream of purportedly fascinating “news.” All of this may make even the most composed person uneasy, and it can be frightening for people who suffer from anxiety. Acupuncture may be an excellent alternative to medicines for individuals who are unable to find relief.

After reading our previous blogs on acupuncture sites for headaches, the processes underpinning how it works should be transparent.

Acupuncture, fortunately, does not require a prescription. If you enjoy it, go for it and test some discomfort in your neck! Please be aware that you may have to pay the cash according to customer surveys as many insurance companies don’t cover therapies such as acupuncture and massages. (However, you can make a case for coverage by obtaining a letter from your doctor stating why the treatment is medically required for your pain.)

Acupuncture is becoming more popular, and it is now acknowledged as a legitimate therapy for various diseases. Despite its popularity, many individuals are ignorant of how or why acupuncture works. This procedure, which entails inserting tiny, sterilized needles into specific places, has been used for hundreds of years, but it has undergone significant modifications.

According to Chinese medicine, “qi” (pronounced “chee,” meaning “vital energy”) circulates throughout the body via passageways known as “meridians,” which connect all main organs. According to traditional Chinese medicine, diseases and illnesses arise when the flow of qi is disturbed, throwing both the body and mind out of balance.

Acupuncturists treat illnesses such as arthritis, back pain, persistent headaches, and migraines by inserting tiny needles into meridians in the arms, legs, shoulders, and even the toes.

Does Guest Posting Still Work in 2021?

Does Guest Posting Still Work in 2021?

Does Guest Posting Still Work in 2021?

Table of Contents

When Matt Cutts’ declared, “guest blogging is dead,” the SEO world went into a tailspin.  Fast forward to today and this statement is still used to back up claims that guest posting is ineffective. However, many in the industry overlook that Cutts later clarified the meaning behind his post.

He explained not all guest posting is dead just the spammy guest posts on unrelated sites that provide no value. So, does guest posting still work in 2021? Let’s start at the beginning.

What is Guest Posting?

Guest Posting, also known as guest blogging, publishes content on other websites as a means to build backlinks, increase authority and online visibility, and grow your audience. Traditionally, you pitch sites a unique topic idea then submit fully-written content, but some websites still reach out to authors and thought leaders with guest posting opportunities (if only it was always that easy).

In the early years, guest blogging was a highly effective strategy that required much less work. Strong ranking boosts could be achieved by publishing a short 300 word guest post filled with unrelated links and virtually no value. For example, users could read a cookie recipe with links to a mortgage company, which Google would count as meaningful backlinks even though the contextual relationship was non existent.

However, over time the strategy became abused. Low quality guest posts were rampant, which diluted the user experience and meaningful rankings. Google took action with multiple updates that targeted contextually irrelevant linking and low quality content. After the Panda, Penguin, and Hummingbird updates, many began questioning if guest blogging was still beneficial for SEO.

Is Guest Blogging Good for SEO?

The short answer, yes. There are still many SEO benefits to guest blogging, including increasing traffic and online visibility, dofollow links, broadening your audience, building authority, and supporting ranking boosts. The confusion comes when guest posting is generalized.

Not All Guest Posts are Equal

In reality, each guest post is different. Some are low-quality, spammy sites with 300-word posts that don’t actually provide much value to the audience. These are the opportunities that will not improve SEO. Steer clear of these.

Other guest posts are published on high-quality, authoritative sites with real traffic. These are the guest posts that impact SEO. They focus on niche relevance and actually provide value to their audience. Remember, the best results come from the best guest posts so be choosey about where you publish content.

While quick, low-quality guest posting is dead, leveraging high-quality, niche relevant guest posting opportunities is still an effective link building strategy. The bottom line is you must evaluate each guest post opportunity individually. The downside is, manual evaluation can suck up a lot of your time…

To save time and ensure you are guest posting on high-quality websites, check out  Web 20 Ranker guest post opportunities. We only work with high-authority sites, so you can rest assured you’re on the right side of guest posting with our product. In addition to our general guest posts, we offer niche guest posts for law, ecommerce, and more to come.

Why is Guest Posting Important?

While many SEOs think guest post link building is ineffective, publishing content on third party sites is still a powerful link building strategy if done right. Informative, relevant content can bring many SEO benefits, including:

  • Broaden Your Audience
  • Increase Traffic
  • Get Dofollow Links
  • Strengthen Authority to Boost Rankings
  • Build a Community
  • Increase Online Visibility, Exposure, & Brand Awareness

Most importantly, guest posting with quality websites strengthens your backlink profile. You not only add more backlinks, but you’re also diversifying your link profile. Backlinks are how search engines determine the authority of your domain, and thus ranking. They are essential to build. Without them, it’s exponentially more difficult to compete in the SERPs.

Broaden Your Audience

Publishing content on 3rd party sites with real traffic gets the brand in front of new audiences. Guest posts can also rank for terms outside your keywords. This is a great way to grow brand awareness and online visibility. Be sure you have a strong CTA in your guest post to bring new users to your site.

Increase Traffic

By broadening your audience, you attract additional traffic. This is especially true if you publish content on high-traffic or high-ranking sites. Look for guest posting opportunities with high-traffic potential. They do not necessarily need to be high authority as authority metrics cannot be trusted. The most important considerations are relevance and quality content.

Dofollow Links

Guest posting often provides great link building opportunities for dofollow links. These are the highly coveted links that pass on authority to your site.  Keep in mind, even though some guest posts are nofollow, these links still bring benefits like directing users to your site and increasing online visibility. Adding guest post links to your link graph also supports a diverse backlink profile.

Strengthen Authority

With meaningful dofollow links your authority increases, allowing you to climb in the rankings. This is especially true if your target page is currently ranking on page 2 to page 3. Consider building links to content that’s currently ranking in positions 10-25 as it is easier to move the needle .

Build a Community

If new users find your content valuable, they can become a part of your community. Strengthening your community supports long-term traffic, sells products or services, increases thought leadership, and builds a following to grow your audience.

Increase Online Visibility & Brand Awareness

Publishing content on third party sites allows you to build brand awareness with users who may not be familiar with your site. It also increases the number of brand mentions, to strengthen your online brand. If the guest content ranks well, you also increase online visibility and exposure exponentially. Even if the piece doesn’t rank on page one, you are still improving your visibility and exposure online with an audience who may not know about you.

How to Guest Blog the Right Way

In order to see the SEO benefits that come with guest posting, you must do it the right way. If done correctly – with authoritative, relevant sites – it is a worthwhile SEO strategy. If not done properly, you can harm your site more than help it. Here is an overview of our recommended guest posting process:

Find Relevant, Quality Domains

When choosing which sites to target for guest posting opportunities, consider the quality, relevance, and  audience. Does the site align with your domain or niche? Does the site publish long-form content that fully answers audience queries? Can you add value for their users?

While the host site doesn’t need extremely high domain or page authority, the content must be quality. The best way to do this is look for sites that are already ranking on the first few pages. Google recognizes ranked websites as quality sites, so you can safely assume there is some value.

Here are some examples of quality guest posting opportunities:

Guest Post Example

Find an Appropriate Topic

Once you know which domains you’re targeting for opportunities, you need to develop a content idea and outline. You want your topic to be closely aligned to their current content, but unique enough to attract attention and stand out.

The best approach is to do research on the host sites to understand audience pain points, current content formats, and what topics are popular on the site. Most importantly, your content should bring value and benefit their audience. Creating a mutually beneficial situation will increase the chances the site will publish your content and potentially feature prominently on their site. It could also rank for terms outside your normal keywords.

Pitch Your Article Idea

Next, it’s time for the pitch! When pitching your guest post, personalize each email. You don’t need to write every email from scratch, but adding a few sentences specifically relating to their site adds authenticity and increases your chances of a response. If you have writing samples or similar content on your site, send links to show your credibility and content quality.

Just remember, don’t give up. You may have to pitch your guest post to many websites before you receive any response.

Write a High-Quality, Authentic Piece of Content

Your content must fit naturally within the hosting site and provide value to see maximum benefits. Write a unique, eye-catching piece of content that aligns with the host site’s current posts. We recommend hiring a copywriter to ensure your guest post is well-written and high-quality.

Pay special attention to the title of the guest post as that is likely to also be the URL. You want the title to be as optimized as possible to increase the chances of the content ranking.

Insert Your Links

When placing backlinks in your article, don’t overlink. Only insert the most relevant links into the content to avoid spammy practices. Be sure the links to your site direct the audience to more information about the topic you’re writing about. As a rule of thumb, don’t include more than two backlinks to your site in any guest post.

Submit Your Post

Finally, time to submit your piece! Be sure you’ve followed all writing guidelines and other stipulations from the host site. You don’t want to lose the opportunity because you didn’t follow the rules. When submitting your content, we recommend providing multiple titles and images for flexibility. This also increases the chances your exact title will be used.

Quality Guest Posting is Effective Yet Time Consuming

Everyone wants quick wins and easy tactics for rising in the rankings, but guest posting is the furthest thing from quick and easy. This is why many people get subpar results. Remember, finding and securing quality guest posting opportunities will be time consuming and hard work.

You have to research potential guest post partner sites, come up with a topic and outline, pitch your idea with personalized emails, write the content, strategize which links to insert, and track if/when backlinks are recognized by search engines. It can be a lot of work.

How Location Page Providers Stack Up for Core Web Vitals

How Location Page Providers Stack Up for Core Web Vitals

Core Web Vitals are everywhere in the SEO news these days. We’ve known for years that slower website loading results in conversion loss, and that it impacts ranking, but now we have three metrics to focus on: Cumulative Layout Shift, Largest Contentful Paint, and First Input Delay.

For businesses with physical locations, location pages tend to be some of the most important on the website. As such, we want location pages to have a fast and stable loading experience, which we can now measure with Core Web Vitals (CWV) metrics.

But for businesses with hundreds or thousands of locations, location page creation and maintenance is frequently done by a third party. Companies like Uberall, Rio SEO, Yext, and BirdEye all provide location pages for multi-location brands.

So how do these third party companies stack up when it comes to Core Web Vitals? I checked!

But Why Though?

Often when working with multi-location brands I get questions about which location provider offers the best services. Now that Core Web Vitals are a ranking factor, it’s important to keep performance scores in mind when choosing a location page provider. Of course, CWVs are only one of many ranking factors, so this shouldn’t be the only SEO consideration when choosing a provider. The intention of my research is to help brands understand what they should be looking for from a performance standpoint when choosing how to manage their location pages.

Methodology*:

I looked at over 100 multi-location business websites and made note of their location provider when it was managed by a third party. I then took up to 100 location pages (unique URLs) from each site and ran them through LightHouse, which simulates a Poor 4G mobile connection. (By me, I mean our fantastic TechOps team created a script that allows me to run URLs through LightHouse. This team is seriously the best.) I then analyzed each of the providers for average CLS, LCP, and TBT (using LightHouse means I have to use Total Blocking Time instead of FID). I did this exercise twice to ensure relative consistency in results, since LightHouse returns lab data (real time performance).

List of domains, providers, and number of URLs

Some disclaimers:

  1. It’s harder than you might expect to figure out which company is providing location pages for a particular website. Brands like Yext and Chatmeter put it clearly in the code (which you’re able to find by inspecting the page), but other companies don’t. I did my best to find several domains for each brand and to match them to the correct provider, but there’s a chance I’m wrong on a few of these. Call me out on it and I’ll update the data!
  2. Most of these examples are for brands in the United States. If your website is in another country and managed by these location providers, I’d recommend asking for examples of domains in your country managed by these brands to perform manual checks yourself.
  3. For some of these providers it’s not clear who is responsible for hosting the location pages. If the hosting is different, pagespeed is also likely different. And some providers offer very custom pages which may impact CWV.

The Providers

The location page providers that I encountered most frequently and used in this analysis are:

  • BirdEye
  • ChatMeter
  • Rio SEO
  • SOCi
  • Uberall
  • Yext

The Results

Cumulative Layout Shift

CLS scores measure visual stability of the page. The size of an element and the amount that it shifts impact the score. CLS is the only score not based on speed. Good CLS scores are .1 and under. The “needs improvement” range is between .1 and .25, and anything over .25 is considered bad.

CLS ranges

Overall, the location page providers all have acceptable cumulative layout shift scores. Yext and SOCi have the worst scores, but these are still in the “needs improvement” range. In fact, only three of the 21 domains I analyzed have CLS scores in the “bad” range (over .2).

CLS Scores

For SOCi, I only had 2 domain examples – anytimefitness.com and nekterjuicebar.com. Anytime Fitness has terrible CLS scores due to an above-the-fold image lazy loading into place, but Nekter Juice Bar has minimal shifting (.02). I’m hesitant to make any final calls on SOCi with only two data points, but am happy to run these tests again if I encounter additional location pages created by SOCi.

Yext has poor CLS scores due to issues with the pages. The Loft and Hollywood Feed received the worst scores (Hollywood Feed is also using a mobile interstitial on the page). From my analysis, it appears that the websites with more on-page content receive worse CLS scores because there are bigger blocks of content to shift around the page. That’s right, if your location pages use Yext and you include a lot of SEO-friendly content, you’re actually hurting your CLS score. Oops!

But the poor CLS blame doesn’t all belong to the location page providers. It’s totally possible for brands to screw up CLS on their own with images, pop ups, and map placements. From what I see, above-the-fold maps and top-of-page popups are the worst offenders, so it’s worth checking your performance scores, even if you use a provider with great CLS by default.

Overall, these third party location page providers are doing okay when it comes to cumulative layout shift. But Yext is super disappointing. Causing worse CLS scores if you add additional page content is unacceptable for SEOs. A fast and empty page is not the way to rank. BirdEye and SOCi may need to make some CLS changes too.

Largest Contentful Paint

Wow, these largest contentful paint scores are bad. So bad. Really bad. In fact, I went back and ran everything again and did some manual checks because I just didn’t believe how bad the scores are! Turns out, they’re right… but they’re also so so wrong.

To be considered ‘good’, Largest Contentful Paint scores should be at or under 2.5 seconds. The ‘needs improvement’ range is between 2.5 and 4 seconds. Anything over 4 seconds is considered bad. No location page provider had an average load time below 5.2 seconds.

LCP Ranges

There are no good options when it comes to choosing a location page provider based on LCP. The very best LCP score, at 3.1 seconds, was stores.petco.com (managed by Rio SEO), placing it firmly in the “needs improvement” range. The worst LCP score was 22.3 seconds for sherwin-williams.com, who is managed by ChatMeter.

LCP Scores

Rio SEO, ChatMeter, and Yext all had one domain they manage that fell into the “needs improvement” category. That doesn’t tell us much, but does indicate that it is possible to achieve acceptable scores from these providers.

So, we’ve established that every one of the location page providers could use a lot of work on LCP. But are there any providers you should absolutely avoid?

Based on these scores, I’d recommend avoiding ChatMeter and Uberall in the United States for location pages, if you’re concerned about LCP.  One Uberall domain actually performed the fourth-best with LCP, but it was for McDonalds Germany. The US and Japan-based domains had the third and fourth longest LCP times (averaging 16.2 and 17.8 seconds). One ChatMeter domain fell into the “needs improvement” category, but two of the other three domains had the slowest LCP times (averaging 18.8 and 22.3 seconds).

Wow, these LCP scores are abismal. How can every single location page provider have an average LCP score in the bad range? You have to hope these providers (and brands!) are working on solutions now, because the Page Experience Update is rolling out and these providers are falling behind.

Total Blocking Time

With lab metrics, we use Total Block Time as a stand-in for First Input Delay, which is only a field metric. Good TBT scores are under 2 seconds, “needs improvement” scores are between 2 and 6 seconds, and anything over 6 seconds is considered bad.

TBT Ranges

Every location page provider other than Uberall had Total Blocking Time in the good range. Only Uberall and Yext had any domains outside of the good TBT range.

TBT Scores

Three of the four Yext domains were under .6 seconds and the two best TBT scores were received by domains managed by Yext. However, Yext also had the second slowest TBT score, at 3.6 seconds, so using Yext doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have passing TBT/FID scores. One strange thing I noticed was that the pages for Mexico locations of The Loft had higher scores than their US counterparts. All were still in the good range, but US locations had a TBT of around .06 seconds and Mexico locations were over .2 seconds and as high as 1.2 seconds. If you’re using Yext for a multi-country business, check your non-US location pages first, as they may have higher total blocking times.

Uberall is a bit complicated. The Germany and Japanese sites scored in the good range (4 and 5 seconds), but ulta.com (based in the US) scored the very worst at nearly 7 seconds the first time and over 23 seconds the second. Because of these TBT scores, I’m concerned to recommend that a US-based business use Uberall.

With LCP scores as bad as they were, I expected some nasty TBT scores too. But ChatMeter, Rio SEO, SOCi, and BirdEye all had fast total blocking times. Brandify and Yext seemed okay too. The only provider with inconsistent and really terrible TBT scores is Uberall.

So Who’s The Best (and Worst) Location Page Provider for CWVs?

For this analysis, I used a pretty small sample of domains. I’d love to complete this analysis again with a much larger dataset and restrict it to domains and location pages for United States based businesses, since the country did have an impact on Core Web Vital metrics. But there were still insightful takeaways from the research for both brands and providers.

Let’s chat about which providers are best and worst prepared for the Page Experience Update (Spoilers: It’s none of them!).

CWV Scores by Provider

Which location page provider has the best overall Core Web Vital scores?

  • The brands with the lowest CLS scores were: Uberall, Brandify, ChatMeter, and Rio SEO
  • The brands with the lowest LCP scores were: Rio SEO and ChatMeter, but ChatMeter also had two of the highest LCP scores.
  • The brands with the lowest TBT scores were: ChatMeter, Rio SEO, SOCi, and BirdEye

Which location page provider has the worst overall Core Web Vitals scores?

  • The brands with the highest CLS scores were: Yext and SOCi
  • The brands with the highest LCP scores were: Uberall and SOCi
  • The brands with the highest TBT scores were: Uberall

Rio SEO seems to be best prepared for the Page Experience Update, but that doesn’t mean they are prepared. CLS scores were low, TBT was fast, but LCP was still terrible. Stores.guess.com has an LCP of over 14 seconds – that’s 10 seconds longer than the cutoff for “bad” LCP. The brands who own the domains (in this case, Guess), may have some blame for the LCP problems, but even Rio SEO’s best performing site for LCP was in the “needs improvement” range.

ChatMeter domains performed really well for CLS and TBT too, but two of the domains I checked had absurdly high LCP times – 18 and 22 seconds. ChatMeter managed to have the two worst LCP scores out of 21 websites with poor LCP scores.

None of these providers are standout “winners,” but I know who I’ll be actively avoiding. SOCi and Uberall scored very poorly for two of three CWV metrics and that is unacceptable.

The Page Experience Update is already rolling out and they’ve had over a year to prepare – why are the location provider scores still so bad?

So Now What?

So what options do multi-location brands have if every location page provider has CWV issues? Well, we did see a few examples of brands who are successfully using a location page provider and are in the good range for CLS and TBT and in the “needs improvement” range for LCP. So it is possible for brands to use a location page provider and have not-terrible CWV scores.

But I’m aiming for higher than not-terrible for my clients. This research highlights why, when brands can afford it, we recommend owned technology. Being dependent on third party providers to navigate SEO updates for important page types is risky. You need to be able to trust them to address changing technology and, in the case of Core Web Vitals, it’s hard to place much trust in any provider.

Have thoughts, feelings, or want to send me some domains you know are managed by these providers? Feel free to reach out to me on Twitter.

Want to check your own site’s location pages for Core Web Vitals? I co-wrote this guide to LightHouse performance metrics with Jamie Indigo earlier this year, which can help get you started.

Core Web Vital Scores by Domain

All CWV Scores by Domain

*Additional Methodology Information

If you’re interested in the way LSG runs LightHouse reports, I’d encourage you to check out the GitHub documentation. Here’s some additional information from Sam Capeheart, who built our tool:

“The Lighthouse Reporter runs on an AWS EC2 instance (t2 medium) with “Low to moderate” network performance. That translates to anywhere from 50-300+ mb/s. However, Lighthouse applies network throttling by default to simulate a specific tier of lower level networking capabilities. See this official doc for more info.

A certain level of variability also occurs across different device types. By default, Lighthouse applies a 4x CPU slowdown to simulate a mid-tier mobile device when run on a high-end desktop computer. However, given the different hardware capabilities of the Lighthouse reporter’s machine, we apply a 2x slowdown instead. More info on CPU throttling values here.”

Mirror Trading International Investors To Report Loss Of BTC

Mirror Trading International Investors To Report Loss Of BTC

Bitcoin Maze

It has been discovered that a total of 8,000 bitcoins belonging to Mirror Trading International (MTI) have been traced, with an additional 29,000 bitcoins potentially facing a similar fate in the near future. The traceable coins, which are worth at more than $280 million (4 billion rand), mark a potential breakthrough for MTI investors who have been hamstrung by the company’s financial troubles.

Liquidators Want Court to Declare MTI a Ponzi Scheme

The most recent revelations came just after a South African court granted MTI a final liquidation order, thus ending the company’s operations. Before this statement, liquidators of the Ponzi scheme had only been able to recover 1,281 bitcoins that had been surrendered to them by MTI’s previous broker, FX Choice, prior to the announcement. As previously reported by Bitcoin.com News, the 1,281 bitcoins were eventually sold, resulting in total revenue of more than $70 million being generated from the transaction.

However, according to a Moneyweb story, liquidators want to argue in favour of having MTI classified as a Ponzi scheme when they return to court on September 8. According to the newspaper, this declaration makes it “easier to track down funds that the liquidators believe are legally owed to the insolvent estate.” Additionally, according to the report, people who are opposed to the declaration have until August 31 to file their answering affidavits.

Meanwhile, the story quotes Riaan van Rooyen, a member of the MTI liquidation team, who explains why it is critical for investors to file claims against the company. Rooyen expressed himself as follows:

We definitely wish to collect as much money as possible for our members, especially those who are elderly or in vulnerable circumstances. Because they have benefited from withdrawals, it is critical that members understand that they will not be compelled to contribute to the estate in the future. It simply means that their claims will be lowered by the amount of money that they have already received in the form of withdrawals from their accounts.. If they paid R30 000 and withdrew R10 000, their claim against MTI would be reduced from R30 000 to R20 000, based on the scenario above.

Roadshow for MTI Investors Planned

In the months leading up to its demise in December 2020, MTI asserted that it had over 280,000 accounts, with the vast bulk of these belonging to investors residing in South Africa. In spite of this, liquidators claim that the number of accounts formed in the names of family pets and other fraudulent accounts will be reduced to between 150,000 and 180,000 “once accounts opened in the name of family pets and other fictitious accounts are stripped out.”

Meanwhile, according to the article, liquidators are going to hold a countrywide roadshow to provide assistance to MTI investors. In order to aid liquidators in contacting as many MTI members as possible and assisting them in filing their claims, the MTI is launching this effort.

Do you believe that the MTI liquidators will be successful in collecting all of the missing bitcoins from their accounts? Please let us know what you think in the comments area below.

Teach Strategies for Teaching Reading Remotely

Teach Strategies for Teaching Reading Remotely

How to Teach Strategies for Teaching Reading Remotely

We will be discussing teaching reading remotely. Sadly, the epidemic has impacted instruction for young children in preschool and primary school.

Teachers have found it challenging to create lessons that benefit future learners. Providing for children may be hard for parents when they have other obligations, including their employment. Without being a teacher, adults may find it difficult to assist youngsters in learning.

Remotely teaching tough abilities, such as reading and arithmetic, might make the task more challenging. Consider, for example, the notion of teaching reading in the digital age.

Hands-on activities and equipment are commonly utilised to assist kids in recognise and form letters. Demonstrations and individual tutoring with peers in a group are often employed in teaching reading. Before investigating remote teaching methods, it is crucial to look at online learning.

Critical Rules for Strategies for Teaching Reading Remotely

Strategies for Teaching Reading Remotely

According to the Modern Language Association, reading scores in America are decreasing. So instructors were already working hard to teach reading before classes moved online last spring. When you’re a teacher or parent, these are a few things to bear in mind while teaching reading.

Encouraging a love of reading early on is the first step to teaching reading.

Reading is about two skill development for young children. Fluent reading is reading material fluently. Second, understanding entails determining what it means.

Reading fluency is required to read effectively. Fluency and text comprehension building blocks are needed first. When you do this, you may practise your reading and verify your comprehension.

Quickly and accurately, know how to express words.

Reading is clearly critical. Before children can read independently, Students should be able to read and comprehend what they read. Adults can assist by reading to or choosing a book for kids to read.

Provide a variety of books.

children learning readingChildren should read books in school and at home. Students are allowed to read books and choose novels that match their skill level. Instead of buying books from school, families could print reading books on their home printer. Teachers can inform parents about the methods to get additional books for their children, even if these are online.

Also, select out novels for the youngsters to read. Books on diverse themes and during different eras are available to children of all ages. Then, reading together will be delightful! They could visit the library or contact their instructors for assistance.

Be open-minded about new digital tools.

Many adults appreciate the tactile feeling of holding a hardback book in their hands and smelling it before reading it. While some individuals are adamant about reading tangible copies, there are several ways to engage children in reading online.

Microsoft’s “Immersive Reader” A tool that reads internet content and highlights key phrases. Additionally, it can enlarge them.

Reading applications that feature audiobooks.

Teachers can use document cameras to show pupils texts from books, periodicals, and movies. Teachers can accomplish this using virtual subscriptions or mobile applications.

Lessons should be short and not too long.

If you’ve ever been on a Zoom call, you’re well aware of how difficult it can be to maintain concentration on the screen. It’s even more difficult for an active first grader to pay attention than it is for grownups. On a normal day, it’s difficult enough to regulate student conduct and keep everyone engaged in the classroom, but it’s virtually impossible when distractions surround them.

While it may appear like your child spends less time in school, this does not imply they are not learning. Teachers and parents should keep teachings brief and to the point. They must, however, be sufficiently long to ensure that pupils acquire the necessary knowledge. Additionally, teachers must space out their reading and writing tasks to avoid becoming too exhausted to focus on one subject for an extended period of time.

Use your digital device to read aloud during the day.

Numerous educators incorporate reading time into their everyday routines. This is done at the start of the day in certain classes, with everyone gathering around the instructor on a rug. It might be an additional scheduled time that promotes reading as a pleasant activity in other courses. Maintain this practice in your online courses and select a large, colourful book to engage your pupils.

Parents, assist your child in learning to read. Reading aloud to children is critical. It does not have to be a digital book; nevertheless, you are welcome to locate other books on themes of interest to your child! This can be done before bed or at any other time of day.

Make reading fun.

If you want reading to be thrilling and enjoyable, take these steps. To begin, experiment with new activities, such as mixing art projects or games with reading. It will encourage children to read more frequently. Second, while you read, utilise your imagination and demonstrate that you are having a wonderful time.

By being innovative and taking reading projects outside, you can motivate children to write self-portraits.

Maintain a light or humorous tone, so they can’t help but chuckle at their errors.

Virtual classes allow us some flexibility in terms of instructional content and class time. For instance, students can be more self-sufficient in their out-of-class work if they view a lecture or read material from home.

The most effective method of reading and writing is through creativity. For instance, you could instruct your family to seek out an object in nature that would inspire them to create a novel. Alternatively, you may ask youngsters to read books in various locations, such as on the porch, beneath a tree, or on the backyard picnic blanket.

Without question, the coronavirus pandemic has altered the way reading and writing are taught. As schools struggle to maintain balance, teachers must improvise with whatever resources they can find outside of school to reassure young children returning to reading for education practises to return to a state of normalcy as possible.

Strategies for teaching reading remotely. Why is remote learning so hard?

The issue is not simply that teachers are unfamiliar with remote instruction. For reasons that scientists only partially understand, learning via video is more difficult than learning in person. … However, because they cannot maintain the required level of attentional focus for a complete Zoom lesson, learning suffers.

Set realistic expectations (And make it fun!)

Learning at home can be challenging for children who are impatient and want to learn things quickly. You must ensure that you practise the skill numerous times to improve. And it’s ideal if you’re practising abilities that are straightforward but also enjoyable. For instance, games or activities might assist people homeschooling children in being less resentful of learning new topics.

3 Strategies for Teaching Reading Remotely

How can you guarantee that a student is following directions correctly if you teach reading intervention remotely? There are several possible strategies.

1/ Have them read aloud or discuss their reading assignment over the phone with an adult.

2/ Utilize Skype video conferencing in conjunction with document camera software to present and debate content as though in person.

3/ Sending emails back and forth with inquiries about daily work, homework, comprehension of book principles, and so forth, all in less than five minutes.

These three ideas can also benefit teachers who work with time-constrained students. These activities require little time but provide numerous benefits, such as improved reading and comprehension skills, a sense of connection to the student’s home community, and an opportunity for socialisation.

How can remote learning help struggling Children

If a student has difficulty reading, it is critical to urge them to take up a book, magazine, or comic book daily. Then, sit down with them and assist them in sounding out any words they are having difficulty reading, as this is the most effective technique to assist someone in learning to read.

The more engaged children are with a subject, the more probable they will develop rapid reading ability. Always evaluate their knowledge of what they’ve just read by asking questions about the tale after they’ve finished reading. This enables you to determine whether youngsters grasp what they’ve just been taught before going on to new content.

The tactics described above and ideas for Teaching Reading Remotely can assist young learners in the classroom, but the most critical aspect is to cultivate a love of reading. Additionally, it is critical to practise as frequently as possible, regardless of the circumstance.

How Google’s Search Engine Really Works (A Peek Under The Hood)

How Google’s Search Engine Really Works (A Peek Under The Hood)
how googles search engine really works

Google’s search engine is technically complex.

There are hundreds (maybe even thousands) of different factors taken into account so that the search engine can figure out what should go where.

It’s like a mysterious black box, and very few people know exactly what’s inside.

However, the good news is that search engines are actually pretty easy to understand.

We may not know every single factor (out of a hundred or thousand), but we also don’t need to.

I’ll bring it down to the basics with a simple method to please Google, rank higher, and bring in more website traffic.

I’ll also introduce some of the latest developments, like RankBrain, that help Google guess what you’re actually looking for (even if you don’t type it in).

First, I’m going to walk you through exactly how Google’s search engine really works so that you can see that it’s not as difficult to understand as you might think.

How Do Search Engines Crawl the Web?

Google’s first job is to ‘crawl’ the web with ‘spiders.’

These are little automated programs or bots that scour the net for any and all new information.

The spiders take notes on your website, from the titles you use to the text on each page to learn more about who you are, what you do, and who might be interested in finding you.

how search engines work nutshell spiders

That may sound simplistic on the face of it.

Which is no small feat, considering there are more than 1.8 billion websites online today — with thousands of new sites popping up every day.

The first massive challenge is to locate new data, record what it’s about, and then store that information (with some accuracy) in a database.

Google’s next job is to figure out how to best match and display the information in its database when someone types in a search query. Scaling becomes a problem, though.

Google processes over 3.5 billion searches a day, and that number increases every year.

how google works number of searches done per day

That means the information in its database needs to be categorized correctly, rearranged, and displayed in less than a second after someone expects it.

Time is of the essence here, because speed wins, according to Marissa Mayer back when she worked for Google over a decade ago.

She reported when they were able to speed up Google Maps’ home page (by cutting down on its size), traffic leaped 10 percent within seven days and 25 percent just a few weeks later.

Google won the search engine race because it’s able to:

  1. Find and record more information
  2. Deliver more accurate results
  3. Do both of those two tasks faster than any other search engine

One of the reasons Google is the front of the pack comes down to the accuracy of its results.

The information it displays is more likely to match what users are actually looking for.

Think about it this way.

When you type something into Google, you’re expecting something. It might be a simple answer, like the weather in your city, or maybe a little more complex, like “how does Google’s search engine really work?”

Google’s results, compared to other search engines, tend to answer those queries better. The information was the best of the best.

This breakthrough came from an initial theory Google’s co-founders actually worked on in college.

Why Do Links Matter to Google?

Google’s co-founders were still at Stanford in 1998 when they released a paper entitled “The PageRank Citation Ranking: Bringing Order to the Web.”

Check it out — you can read the whole thing right here!

how google words why links matter paper

The PageRank breakthrough was simple.

Academic papers were often ‘ranked’ by the number of citations a paper received. The more they received, the more authoritative they were considered on that topic.

Google co-founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, wanted to apply the same ‘grading’ system to the web’s information. They used backlinks as a proxy for votes. The more links a page received, the more authoritative it was perceived on that particular topic.

links are votes how google works

Of course, they didn’t just look at the number of links. They also factored in quality by considering who was doing the linking.

If you received two links, for example, from two different websites, the one with the more authority on a topic would be worth more.

They also considered relevance to better gauge the ‘quality’ of a link.

For example, if your website talks about “dog food,” links from other pages or sites that talk about things related to “dogs” or “dog food” would be worth more than one talking about “truck tires.”

External links (links from other sites) are also more valuable than internal links (links to different pages on your own site.)

how google works external vs internal links.

Before we go any further, please understand these concepts are over two decades all.

PageRank may have mattered years ago, but it’s evolved tremendously since then. So don’t worry about it explicitly today.

One of the reasons is because of newer algorithm developments, including RankBrain.

What is ‘RankBrain’ and How Does It Work?

RankBrain was first acknowledged in 2015 by Google engineer Greg Corrado:

RankBrain has become the third-most important signal contributing to the result of a search query.

Google’s been working on this technology for years to help the search engine handle the massive increases in volume without losing accuracy.

The RankBrain secret sauce is that it uses artificial intelligence to continually learn how to improve.

rankbrain diagram how google works

So the more it processes new information or new search queries for users, it actually gets more accurate.

For example, in 2010, Google’s algorithm “might have up to 10,000 variations or sub-signals,” according to Search Engine Land. That’s a lot!

As you can imagine, somehow managing all of those on the fly would be incredibly difficult (if not impossible).

That’s where RankBrain comes in.

Generally, the two most important ranking factors are:

  1. Links (and citations)
  2. Words (content and queries)

Note: this changes over time, and these aren’t the only factors that matter. Speed plays a major factor in Google ranking, as do Core Web Vitals.

RankBrain, however, is still a main component. It helps analyze or understand the connections between those links and content so Google can understand the context behind what someone’s asking. This is often called semantic search.

rankbrain semantic search difficulty 1

For example, let’s say you type in the word “engineer salaries.”

Now think about that for a moment. What type of engineer salaries are you looking for?

It could be “civil,” “electrical,” “mechanical,” or even “software.”

That’s why Google needs to use several different factors to figure out exactly what you’re asking for.

Let’s say the following events played out over the past few years:

  • You’re getting a degree in computer science.
  • Your IP address puts you on the campus of Stanford University.
  • You follow tech journalists on Twitter.
  • You read TechCrunch almost every single day.
  • You Googled “software engineer jobs” last week.

Google’s able to piece all of these random bits of data together. It’s like a bunch of puzzle pieces suddenly coming together.

So now Google knows what type of “engineer salaries” to show you, even though you never explicitly asked for “software engineer salaries.”

That’s also how Google is now answering your questions before you even ask them.

For example, do a generic search right now for anything, like “pizza.”

Now, what do you see?

how google words SERP example

You see the typical ad spaces up at the top.

However, the local results below the ads are assuming that you’re asking “where to get pizza.”

The Knowledge Graph on the far right-hand side is serving up almost every fact and figure about pizza imaginable.

RankBrain process and filters all this data to give you answers before you even ask them.

Change your search up a little (like this one for “pizza hut”) and the search engine result page (SERP) changes with new information.

how google works pizza search

Now you know how Google’s search engine really works.

While you don’t need to be an expert, understanding the basics like this can help you better figure out how to give your prospects exactly what they want (so you get better rankings and more traffic).

Here are a few of the big things to keep an eye on.

How to Rank Higher in Google: Solve People’s Problems

People type searches into Google to get an answer to whatever question they’re facing.

If they’re looking for an answer, it means they have a question.

If they have a question, it means they have a problem.

So your primary job is to solve someone’s problem.

In theory, it’s really that simple. If you solve someone’s problem better than anyone else, you’ll get better rankings and more traffic.

Let’s take a look at a few examples so you can see how this works in real life.

Someone comes home from a long day at work. All they’re looking forward to doing is grabbing something to eat fast and hanging out with their family or watching a new show on Netflix.

Before they’re able to throw a meal together, they try to run the kitchen sink and discover that it’s clogged.

Bummer.

It’s already getting late, though, so they don’t want to call a plumber. Instead, they head over to Google and start typing in “how to unclog drain” as their search query.

Then here’s what they see:

how google works SERP example for how to uncolog a sink.

See?!

Way up at the top is an ad for a plumber (just in case you want to call in a professional).

Next up is an Instant Answer box that contains step-by-step instructions that Google believes has helped other people. So you might already be able to fix your sink without ever leaving this page!

Below that are related questions that other people commonly ask (along with their answers).

So all of this begs the question: How do you create something that can help solve a user’s problem?

I’ll answer that in one second, but here’s what you don’t do for the record:

how google works example of keyword stuffing

“Keyword density” used to be an old-school tactic that was once relevant when Google’s algorithm was dumb and static. With RankBrain, Google has become a borderline genius.

So keyword stuffing like it’s 1999 will hurt you in the long run. As you can see, this is a terrible “answer” or “solution” to someone’s problem.

After saying that, there are a few places on a page that you want to pay special attention to.

For example, the Title Tag and Meta Description are used by Google to provide an official answer for what this page is about.

Those are the two elements that will also show up on a SERP when someone types in their query.

It only makes sense, then, that you should use the main topic in those areas so that everyone knows exactly what your page is discussing.

how google works title tag and meta description

Do you want to see where that text is getting pulled from?

Simply right-click on a website to view the source code. For example, my homepage looks something like this:

where meta text is how google works

You can see the title tag and meta description at the top of the code.

I’m also using Yoast’s WordPress SEO plugin to help add these extra fields on the backside of WordPress.

That way, all you have to do is write out the specific title and description in plain text (as opposed to getting your hands dirty with code).

Otherwise, the actual page content should be written for humans (as opposed to keyword stuffing to tricks or fool the search engines).

Instead, here’s how your page content should look:

how google works example of good content

I wrote an in-depth response to help someone figure out a solution to a complex problem (keyword research).

Even though it’s a complex subject, I was trying to give them a simple, step-by-step solution so they could fix that problem ASAP.

Google even takes website usage data into account now to determine how helpful your content is.

For example, let’s say that someone clicks on your website from Google and is turned off by the poor design or hard-to-read content. So they ‘bounce back’ to Google immediately to find a different result.

That’s a bad sign! Google determines you weren’t a happy searcher. So maybe Google will try to find a few other results to swap out with that one to hopefully make everyone happy.

That’s why I also break up the paragraphs and include a lot of images. The goal is to help people quickly find what they’re looking for.

I want them to read the page faster and digest the information more easily so that they’ll stick around longer instead of bouncing away.

That’s the key to ranking well in search engines. Give the people what they want, keep them around or coming back for more, and Google will be happier as a result.

Let’s go back to our clogged drain example to see how this works in another context.

how google works example.

Those are all pretty good results!

In each case, the person who crafted each page provided a detailed answer to a common problem.

Let’s zero in on that second SERP result, “7 Brilliant Ways to Unclog a Drain (Photos)” from Yahoo, to discover what they’re doing so well to hit number two on a big, popular search query like that.

This seems like it might be a good result because it gives us multiple methods to try, along with photos so we can see exactly what’s happening.

Let’s click on that to see what they provide.

how google works good content example: include images and easy to read text

Pretty good overall!

It provides the user with good, quality content to help solve a problem. The better your content does that, the more links or ‘upvotes’ it will receive when other people find it useful, too.

Links and other citations or social signals help alert Google. They tell the search engine that your page is on the rise and to start paying attention to your website for these topics.

Your page will get better treatment, move up in the rankings, be exposed to more people, get more links or votes as a result, and continue that upward trend.

That’s where the genius of Google’s process comes into play.

It makes people happy by giving them exactly what they’re looking for. When you do it right, it gives you compounding benefits that can take off all of a sudden, expanding your website traffic as a result.

How Google Search Engine Works: Conclusion

Google’s search engine is one of the most complex technologies in the world.

It crunches a mind-numbing amount of data at lightning speeds to give people exactly what they’re looking for in seconds.

When you boil it down to the basics, search engines are actually pretty easy to understand.

They want to help people find what they’re looking for.

People use Google to find answers and solutions. They have something on their minds, and they want to find an answer that helps them clear the issue to move on with their day.

How Google finds and delivers that information is the building blocks of SEO, making it crucial to growing your business online.

Now that you know how Google works, how are you going to use this information?

SEO Mad Scientist ???

Hey there everyone and welcome back to another weekend update with the SEO Mad Scientist. As you know this week we are going to be switching to some different tests as we continue our ongoing CTR tests.

If you haven’t seen the past few updates and all the CTR tests that we’ve just finished please be sure to go back and look at the past 3 weeks to get the inside scoop…

Moving into this week let’s talk about some of our test listings.

In the last episode of The SEO Vault, there was discussion about certain GMB listings getting hit that had the city name or even possibly keyword in the name and not being well-branded.

As you may know from following the SEO Mad Scientist, we have a ton of GMB listings with keywords and cities in the name that we’ve set up for purely testing purposes. This means they have little to no branding whatsoever.

Combined with what we see with all the legitimate campaigns running at Web 2.0 Ranker, it’s clear to tell there was an impact on these GMBs that did not have any real brand prominence.

This week we wanted to take a quick look at a test listing of ours that took a hit because of this. It’s safe to say about 80% of our test listings that were purely set up for testing with no branding were either suspended or drastically dropped in rankings over the past 30 to 60 days…

As you can see there’s a clear correlation between the keywords that were affected and the listings business name…

With that said we have a lot of GMB campaigns that involve the keyword or city in the name, that are performing very well due to the brand building that was done.

We’ve long speculated that our testing results may be sweet as well due to the fact that they were single variable tests and we believe that Google’s algorithm most likely took multiple signals to determine any type of relevance or prominent score for listing. This is why simply adding keywords to the business description would never produce results.

We are going to be redoing some older GMB tests over the following months as well unless things are performing very well already to see if we can find any type of trend in ranking fluctuations as opposed to our single variable tests.

Be sure to join us next week for more test results while we dig further into more single variable organic tests that we have been working on over the past month…

Until then Happy testing.
